Looks like gray plaid seat with original light blue exterior color based on inside of bed of this short bed. The passenger door panel is parchment from what I can tell. Unfortunately the ad has no picture of spid. Non AC and it has aftermarket wheels. This looks like it could be a good project for someone in the area.

That would be a real sweet to restore. Haven't seen too many Short Box Highlanders on here.

This is within a couple of hours of me if anyone interested might need local assistance. I'm three deep in projects so no more time/money/energy for it but it looks salvageable. Unfortunately Tennessee didn't get the memo on road salt... that poor thing is rusty.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

I see A/C, full gauges, 350 emblems, bumper guards, rear sport bumper... and a lonely Father's Day if I buy it lol. My favorite color but not in the cards unfortunately.

Looking at the tailgate, the trim is Cheyenne only or am I remembering wrong? Also what is under the Custom/10 emblems on the fenders?

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

It's "Deluxe" - highlander packages or trim options were only available on a Custom "Deluxe" trucks.
EDIT: and good catch on the tailgate - that is not correct for a Custom Deluxe, should be painted debossed CHEVROLET letters. That one looks black (but can't tell for sure), which is only available aftermarket.

Tim...quick question for you:
What was the option order requirement for getting the rear cargo light on a highlander?....that one appears to have one.
When the trucks were not Cheyenne Supers (or equivalent) was it typically a line item on the SPID or?

All Good

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

The Cargo Lamp RPO UF2 was a stand alone option available on Custom (base) and Custom Deluxe trucks. As such it would be listed on the SPID.

Since the Cargo Lamp was included with the Cheyenne and Cheyenne Super trim it would not be listed on the SPID.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

so i just found this thread and i am going to go back and read through the whole thing. i have a Highlander truck as well. didn't know it when i bought it and much of the original packaging has been lost except for the carpet and dash pad. i am the 3rd owner that i know of and am still working through getting her where i want. i did decide to restore some of her to her former glory but i will be changing a few things as seen in my build thread. here is a picture of my SPID. came pretty well optioned. its a 1972 short bed. and i am hoping to be the last owner for a long time.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Nice one mechanic! Not very many shortbed highlanders, only aware of a few on the board. Great options and gray plaid is the only way to go in an ochre truck. Are you going back to the ochre and gray plaid combo?

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Thanks. Yeah the previous owner didn't know anything about it although he claimed he rebuilt these trucks for a living. so yeah. but i will be going back to the ochre and white. i am going to do as much as i can to get her to match what she used to look like but with a few upgrades. my build shows what i have done so far. and i have a lot planned. i will be putting in a pair of racing buckets eventually that i will get redone in the beige/white and gray plaid as the center section. should look clean especially with highlander stitched into the headrests.
