Re: a small window of opportunity

If you can do the work yourself, it would be worth it, but since you're going to hire it out, it's most likely going to get expensive. I think you'd be better off waiting for a solid 4wd truck and doing the conversion to 2wd when money permits.

Re: a small window of opportunity

You are better off getting the one listed. Dont mean to bust your Balls but I have 2 of these blazers and they may not look like they would cost alot to restore but boy oh boy when you actually get into them 4 g's and then 10 and then 20 adds up really quick. I would just honestly if I was you would jump on that blue 2wd before someone else does.... Just my . 02

Re: a small window of opportunity

I regretfully agree. When I get excited I can convince myself that's it a good idea but right now it is not the what I need. I already have a rusty 68 c10 in my back yard and I don't need another one back there.
Thanks for getting me past all the excitement so I can think clearly.

Re: a small window of opportunity

What about buying a toyota of something for a driver until you can find the right blazer?

Remember, these thing's aren't exactly cost effective.

Re: a small window of opportunity

Yes, that is what I should do. I am really kidding myself thinking that I have time for a project. This summer I had nothing but time, it felt like the movie groundhog day, while I was waiting for flight school to start. Now I have 2 week old son and flight school starts in 3 weeks.

Re: a small window of opportunity

Well, I just bought a 1970 4x4 blazer off of a board member on here named Jason915 for 4350. It has a newer 350 with TBI. Thanks for all for the help and advice from everyone. This seems like a very solid blazer and I will post pics as soon as it gets here.

Re: a small window of opportunity

I'm going to drive it like it is for a while, maybe a 700r4 and paint, but it will stay a 4x4 for the time being. Here are a few pics from the PO.

Re: a small window of opportunity

Thanks, It seems like a good starting point without the rust. I wish that the 3.73's were 4.10's, I am not sure that i would even benefit from the 4th gear in a 700r4 without swapping gears.

Re: a small window of opportunity

I've had 3 different Blazers each with different gears. My first had 3.73's and 35's. It drove fine. My second had 4.10's and 35's. It had much more off-the-line power with the lower gearing. My current rig has 3.07's with what works out to approx 31.5" tall tires. It isn't the fastest off the line, but it get the best MPG by far. I'm sure most of that is due to the stock tires and stock engine. Both of the others had modified engines. Those tires look to be about 33's so I think you'll be fine with the 3.73's.

My advice would be to drive it for a while then decide. I can't say I've ever felt I needed an overdrive in my truck.

Re: a small window of opportunity

I have 35's and 3.07's, but I still only get 8-10 mpg
