Re: What a ride!

Well, I spoke too soon. That's it for The Cravens' Family Adventure & our participation in The Hot Rod Power Tour...we're officially heading home to Houston. We got a check engine light again & the transmission immediately went into limp mode. So, we headed straight to our buddy, Bruce Molinaro's shop, Robert Station in Robert, LA to have him check/clear the codes & hopefully get it out of limp mode. To add insult to injury on our way there we blew the high pressure a/c hose, so we get to make the remaining 6 hour journey home with no a/c in t he Louisiana & Texas heat! Why not, it's a classic, let's do it the old fashioned way!

So, codes are cleared, we're out of limp mode & rolling once again! Good news/bad news...Good news: cloudy so pretty cool out, not too bad; Bad news: if that big black cloud starts dumping & we have to roll up the windows on this beast it's going to get some kind of hot & steamy in here! 😁

Wish us luck, no more troubles!!!

Re: What a ride!

Final update on this troubled trip is the compressor took a dump and caused the pressure to build much too high. The high pressure cut off switch was broken off the back of the compressor so the computer didn't see any pressure warning signals.

The trans hit limp mode for the third time in Baton Rouge over the big bridge and we cleared the code on her one more time.

After making it home, I replaced the compressor, high pressure switch, blown hose, scradder valve, drier, orfice, and charged it up with freon and pag oil. Ac works great again in both the front a rear air conditioners. Just in time for 96 degree temps here in Houston!

Still baffled on the trans as it is a very random code. Once you clear it the trans works and shifts perfectly. Looking at all the parameters while we drive it will be the next step on it.

As of right now, "Rock" ( my wife's name for the suburban) is back on the road and working fine. I am going to invest in one of those inexpensive OBD code clearing scanners to keep in this one. If I had had one on the power tour it would have been a different trip!

Next big road trip will be the drive to the Dallas good guys in early October. Wish us luck!!!

Re: What a ride!

I know that this is an old thread, nut I passed you up on the interstate leaving Birmingham, I think. That is a really cool looking burb when it is rolling down the road. I thought it was the one that Scott Story had built, but I didn't remember it having a turbo, and there was no mistaking that whistle when I passed you.

I hope it has been treating you well since the Power Tour, hopefully I will get to see it before too long. Are you going to bring it to Goodguys in March? I should be there in the Blazer, hopefully with a new engine, air bags, and A/C by then.
