Re: 68 camaro vs. 06 GTO hybrid

also moddified the stock camaro door latches/ handles to work with the GTO door striker assy. that got retro fitted in the door, so the power door locks, power windows, would work as they should... here is a picture story, kinda...

Re: 68 camaro vs. 06 GTO hybrid

ok here is a little update, iim wrapping up all the "little" things, but time consuming....
first on the list was making the trunk open with the GTO key, so i robbed the key cylinder out of the GTO door handle, then i proceeded to moddify it to work, using the GTO and camaro parts, and some scrap metal i had...

Re: 68 camaro vs. 06 GTO hybrid

now due to the positioning of the HVAC unit, the stock GTO air ducting didnt fit anymore, so i had to make some adaptor pieces so i could make the vents actually blow air through them...once i had them made, i blasted and painted them.... there is also a rod that connects the temp control knob to a lever thats on the HVAC unit, this rod was about 1.185" to short, so i got some round rod slightly bigger then the HVAC rod, then i drilled holes in both ends, and tacked the orignal rod to it, now it works like a champ....so here is the process of makeing them, and the install

Re: 68 camaro vs. 06 GTO hybrid

now for the driver side, there wasnt much realistate to work with on the dash for a air vent, so borrowing the idea off of 70's firebirds, i made use of the empty space under the column... this is what they call a crotch, or knee cooler....i started off with a vent that kinda match the width i needed, then with the use of a hammer handle and a heat gun, i molded it into shape...
and then more of the same on the adaptor plate to the HVAC unit....

Re: 68 camaro vs. 06 GTO hybrid

now with every mod to a car like this there seams to be more and more things you gota make work, the problem i then ran into when mounting the new crotch cooler was that the vent interferred with the lower column cross brace, so i had to fab a new one to clear the new added round vent/ hose... here is the new one, i dubbed the "bat-wing"... once the bat-wing was made, it got the same blasting and painting treatment.... once all that was done, i simply connected the HVAC adaptor piece to the crotch cooler with a/c flex hose....

I do believe this is a 67. Pic 16 shows the fun, I cut a Horizon in half and drove the front half around the shop. It was for my daughter's first car.
