Dad lives up on top of the Blue ridge in Northwest Va. he gets black bears up there all the time. They are fun to watch from a distance, for some reason they almost seem human to me when they are playing or eating.

Re: 2020 deer season
Got my rifle buck on Black Friday. I named him "Terminator" because he didn't want to die. He had to be the meanest, strongest buck this side of the Mighty Mo. land owner behind where I was said he saw my deer toss another buck 10' then saunter off to service the does. From 118 yards I hit him in the lungs with my .270, saw the hit and he just shuddered. I hit him again and he slowly walked 30 yards then sat down. He kept his head up looking for a cause of the pain. Grabbed my .44 mag revolver and walked towards him. He got up and walked away as if to say "I don't like you so I'm going elsewhere". I watched him walk 150 yards into the slough. After 20 minutes I went looking for him with my rifle. I saw blood on grass at entrance and he was 10 yards in. He went to get up again so I shor him in the back of the head. He STILL got up and walked away! He took a turn then laid down so I shot him in side of head to end his misery. Got him home, skinned him and found both shots through lungs. I have yet to clean and mount skull.
This is a deer I will never forget. It took 3 of us to toss his gutless body into my Trailblazer. The meat is the best I've ever had. Hardly any fat under skin and none in meat. I got 10# from his neck alone. Backstraps about 6" wide. Rack wasn't real (18") wide but 4 strong points on one side and 3 1/2 on other

Re: 2020 deer season
Usually it's a doe that doesn't want to die like that.
One time I shot a little whitetail buck at about 50 yards. He took off and ran and then jumped into a big spreading juniper tree and died. I had to crawl in there on my hands and knees and pull him out by the rear hooves. It's amazing how they can run with no lungs and heart.

Re: 2020 deer season
That’s truth, my brother in law shot a monster bull elk a few years ago, several hundred yards from the only watering hole around. Double lung shot... yep he went all the way to the water and died half submerged. Just wonderful.
