Update 8-21-11

A few pix taken this evening. My son and I stopped over to help the body guy get the cowl hood on. Now he gets the fun project of making it fit up correctly and get the gaps right! Glad it is him doing all the detail stuff!

Re: 67 C10 SWB Build

Wow.. it has been over a month since I have posted an update or even visited the body shop. Things other than the truck have been keeping me busy, so I personally have not accomplished anything on it. Fortunately, the bodywork has continued on without me.

These shots were taken today. The cab floor inside and outside were first shot with gravel guard for toughness and then shot in black enamel for even more durability. Then the silver was shot on top of some of the black, which will explain some of the texture you will see on the cab floor.

The cowl will be shot this weekend and then we will mount the cab to the frame for good early next week.

I am very pleased with the cab. It has come a L O N G way & is certainly better than new.

very cool nice jo on paint. if factory would have done a better job of coating these cabs they might have survived better then they do now for maybe another 10 years.

Re: 67 C10 SWB Build

Hi again. The firewall and cowl are painted now, so we set the cab on the frame this evening. Pretty fun to see it coming together. A long way from done, but coming together.

Re: 67 C10 SWB Build

Hi Geoff.
The interior is going to be black. I have a set of 91 Silverado low back buckets that I have already had done, but I also just purchased some buckets out of a '70 that I will likely use. Check out page 2 of this build and you can see both seats. The 70's will need to be redone, but they are nice.
Thanks for the positive comments all!

Hood

Hi all.
It has officially been 1 year since this project has started....
Last week, the tough decision was made to abandon the cowl hood and use the stock hood instead. The cowl hood fit, but we could not get it to fit perfect. Many hours were spent trying to get it perfect, but the sides bowed a little too much by the fenders and it also was just a little too long in the front. The original hood fit like a glove and just needs to be stripped and have a few spots repaired.
We are very pleased with all the panel fitments now & the lines are super straight, so just a few more things and it is ready for primer and paint.

I am getting ready to sell off extra parts. Small window cab, doors, etc.
Thanks....

Re: 67 C10 SWB Build

I think if I had to redo my truck, I would go with the original hood too....the cowl hood fits pretty good now, but the night I walked in and saw my body guy beating on it AFTER paint, I had to walk out

Re: 67 C10 SWB Build

I hear you on that. We seriously discussed cutting the new cowl hood apart and combining the cowl section from the new hood the the old hood, but were concerned about warping and the tremendous amount of time and $$$ that it would take to make it all perfect... The original hood will look just fine!

What did you do for the fuel filler. Your truck is coming along very nice. Keep up the good work. Thanks, Steve.

Fuel filler

Hey Steve...small world here. My parents live in Sedalia and are visiting us in Michigan right now.
The fuel filler is located back in the bed now. It is on the left hand side. I used a stainless fuel filler from the marine industry. We cut the neck and re-welded it to a 90-degree angle and then a filler hose shoots over to the tank.
If you go back to page two of this thread and go about half way down the page, there is a photo of the wood floor all completed...you can see the filler in that pic. I will post a better picture of it tomorrow.

Fuel filler

Steve. Here is a look at the fuel filler set-up. I bought the filler at a marine supply store & then my fabricator buddy cut the neck and added the 90-degree angle. The rubber filler hose would not fit on the neck because of clearance issues with the wood, so we added the rectangular stainless plate. It works perfectly now and I like the look. This was one of those projects that I never imagined would take much thinking to get it done... once again, I was wrong. Chalk it up as another learning experience!

Long time, no post...
As of yesterday, the cab now has color. Things are coming along nicely. Slow, but nice.

Let the fun begin

Paint & bodywork is complete now. We pulled the bed out of the loft and it will be headed to the body shop soon to be installed.

New windshield and rear window were installed this week too.

Going to finalize plumbing, get the steering column, instruments and wiring in and then get it running.

My goal is to be driving it this summer.

Re: 67 C10 SWB Build

Hey Geoff, thanks for the support! I am struggling with the seats. I purchased some low back buckets out of a 91 Silverado & had them redone. Once I picked them up, they were nice, but I was not thrilled. Since then, I found an original set of buckets out of a 70 (I think). I just ordered up the black houndstooth covers. Honestly not sure if I will like them or not, but want to see. If I am not thrilled with them, I will go with all black. One thing I am sure on is that I will use the original buckets.
Have new black carpet, black dash pad and new black door panels. It should be a nice contrast with all the black and silver.
I should sell the 91 buckets, but it has not been a priority.

Re: 67 C10 SWB Build

Geoff... you are killing me! Take a look on page 2 of my build and you will see the two different seats I have. I thought about buddy buckets, but I am dead set on having a console with cup holders. (I have one from a mid 80's Blazer that I will use)
I need to wait and see the houndstooth covers and see how they look. I don't really like the vinyl covers with the original patterns, so if I don't like the houndstooth covers, I will need to find another option.

Re: 67 C10 SWB Build

Nice looking truck, what color silver is that? And who makes the gas tank? Did you have to trim the bed sills to make it fit? Hope it's not to many questions for ya. Doing the same do my 71, 05 Viper Silver. Deciding on the tank.
