Re: 54 gmc s10 swap (yes yet another one)

GMC must have changed the bumper brackets in 54. Mine has a 2 piece bracket.

Re: 54 gmc s10 swap (yes yet another one)

i think 1tons and half tons had different brackets. mine was a 1 ton duall thats why i had to tuck the bumper cause it stuck out far from the grill.

Re: 54 gmc s10 swap (yes yet another one)

made some lower dash filler panles to hide the brake pedal mounts and it just looks good. they are not done yet still got to weld the two halfs together and make some brackets they are just clamped in place for now. i will be moving the guages from the speaker grill area to the new lower dash left of the steering column. the center lower panle will probably house my radio. i will try to finish it tomorrow. it was a little cold and had to come home to watch my daughter so the fiancee could go out.

looks good man. I've been thinking of doing something like that. Watch your knees, looks like it could make you cry if you hit them at the right angle.

Re: 54 gmc s10 swap (yes yet another one)

pugs you should have seen the wheel when i got it. the wheel was fire red and the column was blue. was a lot of sanding, priming an painting to get it to look that good. it does have a few harline cracks here and their but $20.00 for the wheel and column can't go wrong. i'll get that measurement for you but i think that they are all the same size up to the 1ton like mine was. it looks the same.

sgtusmc that is just rough fitted i need to weld the pieces together and make everything smooth and purty. as far as knee room their is plenty. the panles are only about 3 to 4 inches. i am a short guy anyways.

Re: 54 gmc s10 swap (yes yet another one)

well i have made some progress not much. i got a new seat for the truck it is out of a dodge dakota an i like it better than the ranger seat. i got a lot done on the motor. the 2 bl intake and carb were freebies from a family friend. got some new exhaust manifolds from ebay. they are ram horn style and will allow the steering shaft a straight shot now. got a new steering shaft setup too.

Re: 54 gmc s10 swap (yes yet another one)

well got something done since i last posted. i put the engine back in to see if the new manifolds would work. the good news is the drivers side does ane with the new steering shaft too. the bad the passanger side dosn't it is going to hit the control arm. i need to get a ram horn like the drivers side for the passangers side needs that little sweeping curve to clear the a arm. i also took the fromnt sheet metal off to make it easier to get the enginein and out. waiting on my timing chain set to come in so i can button the motor up and hopefully fire it up real soon.

Re: 54 gmc s10 swap (yes yet another one)

well back home after a month of being away working. got some things done today. my father in-law stopped by to help. we pulled the motor again to put the new timing chain and button up the bottom of the motor. got my seat frame made. cut the custom shifter to length now that the seat is in. made a coustom shifter handle from a spair 15/16 half inch drive socket. my stock gas pedal arrived in the mail today. gona try to make it work with a throttle cable and not linkage like it was meant for. hope to get the motor finished and fire it up by the end of the month.

Re: 54 gmc s10 swap (yes yet another one)

well not to much done this week. put my wide wheels on the back of the truck no pics though. put the motor back in to get the throttle pedal fabed up.go the starter cleaned up and painted to match the motor's paint schiem orange/black. got the wiring hooked back up to the motor. still gota make some wires up to the guages and such so i hope to fire it up soon. still gota plum the fuel lines though. going to try to work on that this up comming week. got a wire set to fit the hei distributor what a mess that was. had to buy 3 exrat single wires to make it work but it's done. the throttle pedal is not quit done yet still gota change some stuff around and shorten the throttle cable so it is no so long and looped up. trying to make it look stock or some what close i didn't want one that was mounted to the firewall. notr did i want to spend 70+ dollars on a lokar one. so i made my own saved some money and have a unique gas pedal too.

Re: 54 gmc s10 swap (yes yet another one)

well our friends had something come up so the wife decided that i should go work on the truck. she came along to give me a hand she couldn't do much since she is 8 months pregant but she was a big help. i didn't have to get out from under the truck too much like normal and in and out to put bolts back in the hole when the fell outtrying to put the nut on from the outside. got the front brake lines finally hooked to the master. the fuel regulator is mounted. got the roof marler light bezles cleaned up and primed/painted. i think the look good. the bezles are really pitted the use to be chrome but when i got the truck they were rusted. the will be fine for me,and the are factory orignals too from the part # on them and what i found on other sites. i also got a pic of the wife playing a game on her phone while i was cleaning up. she'll probably kill me for posting it but oh well.
