Kurt does that thing have hydro assist or full hydro steering on it? Spool in the front is gonna break those u-joints you need ctms ot ox style u-joints with a good chro moly axle i dont know who you got the 4340s from but I hope they stand behind there stuff (btw warn does not)

From what I've seen, it's the partial clip on the outer shaft that gives way, then thing's break from there. These 4340 axles have full circle clips to 'supposedly' prevent that. Even a selectable diff is locked solid when engaged, seems to me the on/off/on thing could cause more load and stress than just a spool if engaged at the wrong time. Kurt I was suggesting the hydro assist because with the front end welded or spooled it will be very hard to turn when when both hubs are engaged. The hydro makes it to where even fully locked you can still turn the wheel with your index finger. I am not agianst the spool set-up (my yota is welded front and rear)but with a spool the axle ears and u-joints become the weak links(fusible link)and when the joint lets go the ears on the axle shaft get beat up pretty bad and sometimes torn off the axle completely. When the full circle clips dont pop out the cross of the u-joint will usally snap in half..Here is a link for you to check out these are the axles I am running in my v-8 powered yota http://www.longfieldsuperaxles.com/ I am running the yota super set very $$$ but garanteed for life cannot beat that he also has the u-joints that are lifetime gauarantee.... Kurt what kind od hydro asist do you have??

Longfields rule for sure, I know other guys that run them.
I see that they sell the 4340 axle as well and call it the strongest axle out there. I'm sure that @ around 6000lbs, I'll be working the axles pretty hard. Getting a pair of ctm's is looking like a good idea though. Here's to the 'learning curve'.  The ram assist is from PSC and works pretty freakin good but has had some issue's that I've had to iron out. 1) had to send the pump back due to not providing any real power at idle, they fixed it no charge but never said what was wrong, just returned it. 2) steering box leaks but again they covered it, sent me a new O-ring @ no charge. 3) the reservoir pukes until it's happy with the fluid level, no matter how good you bleed it out but that could be strictly from overfilling, dunno, never got any instructions with the kit. 4) not an issue really but alot of belt tension is needed to stop slippage, having a two belt pulley on there would be nice. Kuet if you get those ctms make sure the axle company you go with will guarantee the axles you buy ..... I have the redneck ram hydro set-up on my yota from west texas off road works great and once all the air was outta the system it worked killer.. Just make sure you run power steering fluid and not atf in the power steering set-up as atf will eat the seals on the ram.. Let us know when you get the parts...

Latest mods are completed.
* Spool * 4340 Axle set * Heavy duty u-joints. (not ctm's or yukon) * New front drive line w/1410 yolk, 1350 CV, 2-1/4" tube and a 12" slip. On a good note, when thing's were apart I found that the wheel bearing's on the drivers side were smoked...

(nice pics French) * TBI'd 383 stroker motor * Fuel cell w/internal pump * Serp set up Entirely different truck to wheel now with the injected motor! If your serious about wheeling hard, go injected or go home. So Frenchblue...think it's there yet?

This was our mud/trail truck a few years ago. Moved the battery from under the hood into the bed behind the sidepanels w/ an access door. Then put remote battery terminals in the fuel fill door. This was very handy for quickly jumping off our buddies that kept wheeling with with dead batteries & alternators.

Lookin good VT, Those rock sliders are pretty stout looking. When are you going to 4 link it and put coil overs on it? Can you get a picture of how you attached the roll cage to your frame behind the front seats? I see in the one pic how you did it at the front but can not tell at the back. Keep up the good work you have come up with some good solutions.
