Re: 72 suburban "3drdwn"

I can not wait either, I had several post type out at differnt times that satisfied my eagerness to post the pics of the DM Rear as well. I can NOT wait to see this thing PC'd and installed on my ride too..and to get one of those slick Members only plates.

I ordered about $2k more in stuff for the burb on friday ( 5/9 )
I'm told I'll be one of the first and THE first burban with the parts.
I'm beside myself with anticipation and sat and had a conversation with my burb for about a half an hour where I actually spoke to her out loud. It was much like the scene that Robert Duvall had in days of thunder where he lay'd out the plans for the car in the shop. I may in fact be going off my nut. Not quite sure how I'll make it to final delivery as I've never been a patient man. Fortunately I have a non-truck airride project that should fill up all of my off work time for a while.
I look forward to the day soon when I can start posting pics of the next step for me and 3dr.

One step forward.....

2 steps back....
off to the lift to pull the body in prep for the next steps for the chassis. I'll post up a few more pics of the bare chassis later tonight.

Re: 72 suburban "3drdwn"

Well..... I had hoped to have the rear done while I was on vacation 7/17-7/28 but some unforseen delays have put things on pause. The good news is I was able to complete and deliver 2 other trucks in that time and now the chassis for da burb is front and center in my work bay eagerly awaiting the man in brown to make our day. ( of course it starts with the shaved head man in blue first ) I'll try to get some bare chassis before pics to fill the need in the meantime.

Re: 72 suburban "3drdwn"

UPS should be dropping off the bulk of my rear stuff today. I say bulk cause combined weight not including bags and some other misc. hardware weighed in at 230lbs. Looks like cookies for the man in brown. Anyway I just wanted to revive this and just incase anybody thought I've been goofing off this whole time I'm including a pic of one of the "other" air ride projects I've been working on. I know it's not 67-72 or even a chevy but try not to hate too hard a friend of mine sunk a lotta cash to make his girl happy .

+ be on the lookout for DM rear which I'll be hitting hard Tues/Wed. next week.

Re: 72 suburban "3drdwn"

Ok so things have been progressing a lot more slowly than I had hoped. A little bit due to getting parts from vendors a lot to do with impending arrival of my newborn daughter and all the house re-modeling and other honey-do's. I guess my sneaking off to the track several times a week can't be helping either.
Rear DM is in the shop as is the bare frame. I hope to be seeing the very last of the parts I'm waiting on early next week. I am very impressed with the stuff that is here. The Notches are surplus tank parts I'm sure based on how stout they are. Anyway I did promise a few pics of the body removal and bare frame so these will have to tide everyone over just a little bit longer.

as for the body removal I was able to get some shop time at a place I used to work @ and use their 2 post lift. The original plan was to sling straps under the body but the lift arms were missing a ppiece that locked them in place and they would have swung into the tub. We ended up putting the posts directly on the rear wheel arches and then the air boxes on the side in front of the front door opening. I was a little leary of lifting @ these points but since my rockers are pretty soft and rusty those were the best locations. I'm happy to report that there was no indication of any ill effect to the tub from using this method. THe tub is currently strapped on top of a pile of junk tires on my trailer. I am making a set of body dollys from some drywall carts that were donated to the cause so it should be back inside soon.

bare frame pictures are pretty boring and I really only post them as a reference.

As it sits now all the rivets have been removed and I'm in the process of cleaning up the rear end for the new 4-link mounts. I'm waiting on bushings for the link bars and some last minute measurements from Nate before I can proceed. All his measurements are truck based and are slightly different for the burb frame.
I'll try to get another batch of pics in a week or so as things move along.

Nice KTM! Most of the SuperMoto guys at NT are running KTM. a set of 17"wheels and some street rubber you'll fit right in. Best of both worlds. I've never done very much dirt riding but curious to start once the little one gets into riding since she has 16 years before we can go together on the street.

Re: 72 suburban "3drdwn"

And Now, back by popular demand a post actually about the build

Well I quit my job thursday. Yay. Those that kow me know it was long over due. but anyway I took Fri and Sat. to do some stuff around the house but Sunday was all burb day. Sadly I must have slept wrong cause my neck and back were killing me all day but I managed to get notches fit into place and top piece test fit. I want to double check a few things before I proceed and my back cracker told me to take it easy a few days. so until next time hope these pics help

and before anybody says anything, yeah I know I need to clean the shop.
it's 1780 sq. ft. and that's the cleanest spot. KD and JonZ can testify as to how much treasues/junk I have to sort through. maybe after the chassis is a roller again.

Re: 72 suburban "3drdwn"

Made some more progress today. Back is still a little sore but I managed to get the notches bolted into the frame and the notch caps in. I need to double check a few more things before I go to the next step of the 4-link mounts. All of the references for the install are truck stuff and my burb frame is just slightly different. any way here's the pics from today:

There's two ways that the rear x-member can go in and still be like the instructions say so I need to clear that up with Nate but I hope to have the rear-end/ 4 link in tomorrow night.

Re: 72 suburban "3drdwn"

As usual things going slower than planned but anyway here's todays update:

got rear cross member bolted in along with all the notch caps and the frame side panhard mount.
Last thing for today was to get the frame side 4-link mounts installed and the bars in place.

next day or so I should be able to get the axle mounts in place and set this thing back on the ground
