Again, no SPL numbers on the truck. It's an SQ set-up believe it or not.

I might be able to get some numbers on it soon considering it's back in the shop. Long story.

Hey man that is a way nice truck. I'm in the process of rebuilding my whole interior right now. I've ripped out and installed my system probably 10 times and I still haven't got what I wanted... Any how I had a question about your kickpanels cuz I thought about trying the same thing as you.

You had to cut out a hole in the metal on your kick panels right?

Do you have those weather proof things on your speakers?

Any regrets? I'm probably going to end up cutting my doors or my kickpanels. I just dont see any way around it.

The doors take a lot of abuse from getting slammed however you can replace them.

The kick panels are stationary and never move but after you cut them you can never replace them.

I dont like the huge kickpanel sticking out that they sell, I like yours....

So being as you already done this what is my best out?

My kick panels are cut. There's no weather proofing or anything like that for the speaker. Some dynamat calls the panel home, but nothing else. No issues thus far and this is the second set of components that have been in that same position.

Panels were made using the stock plastic panels, the speaker mounting rings, and sever small plastic spacers. Fiberglass over that, bondo, primer, texture coat, paint.

Kick panels are the best place to set the mid-bass speaker. I prefer the tweeter up in the dash.

Got the truck back from the shop. Was kind of a bitter sweet end to the day.

I ditched the headunit and EQ...

For the newest ones! I was involved in an "accident" a couple weeks ago where some dumb motherfu[EDIT] in a piece of [2nd EDIT] stopped in the middle of an intersection. My Rockstar flew off the seat and slammed against the dash, fried my PEQ, damaged the deck, and ruined my carpet. Oh, and cut me on the hand.

Insurance company was baffled. Both the people handling the claim had never heard of this sort of thing before. I still gotta place a suplimental claim because parts are more expensive than previously believed. I refuse to be out of pocket for this.

Also, recieved word earlier today that my truck should be in ARC Audio's booth again at the 2009 Sacramento Autorama.

EDIT: Just a warning to all of you looking to add a high end system to your trucks/cars; be prepared to get bit by the bug. Its infectious too. I gave it to my dad and room mate.

UPDATE: Got some solid numbers as to what the truck does SPL wise.

The magic numbers:

130.3dB sealed (doors closed, windows up)

132.1dB open (windows down)

This was done playing music, not test tones like alot of SPL tests are done. The mic was placed on the driver's side of the dash, next to the windshield.

These numbers may not look big, but you have to understand, this is an SQ engineered system, it isn't meant to be played like it was for the testing. My inputs were clipping like crazy, it was like a light show in my EQ (which has an input "clip" warning light).

For those of you who don't know, clipping is when an input signal becomes distorted. That signal will come out of the amps distorted and can potentially destroy parts. I have personally seen a JL 10W1 that had a voice coil fried to a crisp due to repeated clipping. It's not pretty.

Now, you may be wondering, is all you hear the bass? No. Regardless of volume, you can hear everything in my truck, it's just dam loud.

You may also be wondering what that is like when you sit in the truck and listen to music that loud. Just as a reference, a Boeing 727 jumbo jet hits 120db while taxiing down the runway...

Nope. But you have to remember, I have a set of tweeters in the dash as well. They used to be WAY too harsh, but thanks to proper tuning its not really an issue anymore...

It's really nice when you open the doors and sit a few yards behind the truck. You can hear all the bass, mids and highs really well. Makes the drive-in movies more fun...

Nice system. Been into car audio since about 93'??? I've still got a few Orion HCCA amps rolling around from their first generation (88-93?). Some unused.

What I like most about your system is your honesty. No it can't compete in a lousy DB competition (those cars can only burp, they don't play music) and realistically additionally money and BS to compete in SQ comps make it too difficult.

Thing I like most about your system #2, you are not afraid to cut. Here's what I don't get. Very few of us own trucks or Blazers with matching everything, original everything and in like new condition. So just cut it man...

How much happier would all our fellow 67-72'ers be if they would just cut the darn metal?

I agree totally with the midbass kickpanel. Sure low bass or sub bass is non directional but that midbass sure is and most mids can't do it all. Having three mids up front per side really makes sense. Two are set up like seperates and the dedicated mid can reall add that extra snap you need when playing some rock.

There are many keys to car audio. Midbass up front to me is one of them.

Love the subs.

Question about the enclosure. Is it a 4 sided box or 5. Many use the rear cab sheat metal as the 5th panel.

Love it, great job.

No additional pics of the dash tweeters, sorry, but I can answer any questions about how they are installed.

The box is 6 sided and made form 3/4" MDF. Tons of bracing as well. I could drive the truck on top of the box and park it there without worry.

Anything you see is free to be copied, just remember where you got the idea

Again, props to Ken for the idea for the EQ mounting.

dude i have been searching htis forum for some ideas on how to do the inside of my truck and i think i found it... i love the placement of everything.. i am going for a classic/ratrod look on my truck but i think alot of your ideas can be transfered over to what im doing... i should have my truck out of the frame shop by lat feb early march.. then the interior is getting done.. then all i got to do is rough up the paint and let her sit out in the weather for a few days... i cant wait

Oh yeah, turns out I didn't need a new amp. I had a short in a speaker wire. Turns out that if you play music at 130+dB for hours every day, things vibrate loose... In this case it was a screw holding in the front right speaker wire...

My poor truck is starting to show signs of my constant barrage of high decibel mayhem. Some of the internals of the doors are starting to make some noise and the back wall is flexing. On some notes its so bad that the rear window actually acts as a woofer...

Poor truck. Look like I'll just have to pull it apart and make it better
