I vote for the 383. For these reasons. While you will probably hot rod it some, your building a driver and have a race truck, so you don't need balanced or forged or 4 bolt main. The 383 will have more power and torque, other things the same. I think it will make a all around great driver/toy. The 2200 stall converter will work well with it also. I wouldn't see a need for the roller unless you have it. The balance on the 383 will certainly help it last longer.

The truck is really looking great. You may not like body work, but what you've done looks quality.

I particularly like the slot mags.

Are you going buckets or bench seat?

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step

Erik , I have a good cowl , but thanks for the offer .

I made some progress on it this weekend . Got this hood off of Craigslist for $100 . Bought new drivers fender , both inner fenders , both outer rockers , and a chrome front bumper . Also ordered the front windsheild and front and rear gaskets . I painted the core support . have been doing body work . Here is the hood . I am having the 383 and the 355 built . I'll run the 6 at first as I just re bushinged the shift linkage and tightened the column .

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step

Well I finished the gauge dash with Camaro tach and shaved the side marker off the drivers fender . Been cleaning up the floor pans before the rocker go back on . I'll post some pics monday as this will be my first day off in a while . I did manage to race the Luv yesterday and went to the finals and red light , but runner up pay spends good too . I also did a couple of heads up races that worked out in my favor also $.

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step

Here is the Camaro tach gauge dash I have been working on .

I got all the rust removed and the replacment peices bent up , i'll be fitting those this week .

got the new drip rails installed

Also got the driverside fender installed and aligned with side marker filled .
My bodyman also showed back up so he will be back on it next week while i'm off work to keep track of him and the truck . I'll be working toward getting the flors patched and rockers back on this week .

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step

It's really coming along well. I know it has been more of a project than you originally wanted(aren't they all), but sure will be extra nice when you get done.
Has the wife been mostly understanding?
How's your dad doing, I know collar bones can be slow healing.
Did you get to go race Pinks in Shreveport?
The truck really is looking good, keep up the good work.

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step

Thanks , my wife is on board with these projects , if she needs me i'm in the garage not a bar . This is my hobby and she supports me . She has watched 1 or 2 turn from frogs to princess .

My Dad is doing better he spent a MONTH in the hospital . Mainly for rehabilitation , basically training him how to stand up by himself with 1 arm . My mom is a 3 time cancer surviver ( including brain ) and can't care for him . It has been a tough month for us all . He is 74 .

I was signed up for Pinks all out in Shreveport and was planning on going , but when i signed up they said i would be an alternate . I was told later that i would be a wild card for the alternate list . That mean't 79 people had to not show up , I could not bring my truck into the track until saturday afternoon , no guranteed passes , and no refund @$40 . desiel is $4 a gallon + hotell and leaving my truck in an unknown place friday night . I just stayed home and bought 3 day passes to the nationals . My wife loves top fuel !

Thanks for the kind works on the project . I intended to paint it and drive it , but it has turned into a retoration project . I intend to drive this one and enjoy it . Hope to have it tagged and inspected by the middle of may . Maybe take Dad for a ride in it . Anyway sorry this has been so long . I'll get some pictures up soon , and as progress continues . I got some " me time " tonight and installed the pistons on the 355 so it looks like this motor may go in due to timing .

You're a lucky man! My wife tolerates my projects, but she can take it or leave it. Glad to hear your Pops is doing better, enjoy your time with him. Best of luck with your build.

At least they are working on the body. Hope it doesn't take much longer.
You may have said, but what color white are you going? I am thinking you said white exterior, right?
How's your dad doing? Its spring, hope he's getting around okay.

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step

Lee, sorry for the delay , Dads doing better . This has really slowed him down . He is still not driving . He needs to be driving . The physical therapy people are pampering him . I'm like are you kidding me 45 days ago this guy would have been boxing your ears . Make him work . I think he is dogging it until I show up . Anyway thanks for asking .

The color is a 1996 Z28 GM white with factory blue interior . I have some crappy cell phone pictures ima try an load . The body is in full 2K primer the bed is off , done , and primed . Ima look ata set of swb fleet bedsides saturday and have a line on a metal bed floor , tailgate , wheeltubs , and front and rear panel to build a fleetside . I am selling the 355 and the 383 is in the machine shop and will be done soon . I'm pulling the 625 demon off the Camaro for this motor . The camaro will get the 650 off the Luv . The Luv will get a 750 speed demon for the 396 small block . Magna flow stainless dual exhaust is paid for and at the muffler shop ready to go . 2004R overdrive is cleaned up and ready for reassembly . I have really enjoyed this project and fully intend to keep this for many years to come . I will post some quality pictures soon . I have also been building a new motor for the Luv as i plan to go heads up racing with it soon . I actually have 4 builds going on at one time . Unfortunately the Camaro has not gotten very much attention lately . It will go to the paint shop in 2 weeks if the results from the truck are good . This guy ( body man ) had some life problems thrown at him , but truely is a man of his word . Let me know what you think and updates will be sooner than later from now on .
