Re: State antique license plates who has e'm ?

As Subtle71 mentioned earlier, we have Antique tags here in Mississippi and that' what the 70 has. It is nice as there is no restrictions on driving aand the tags s initial price is good for the life of the vehicle ownership.

Re: State antique license plates who has e'm ?

I have the model year plates on all my old vehicles in Ohio. Only issue is the 1971 Ohio plates are yellow. Ohio gives drunk drivers yellow plates so everyone thinks I've been drinking to much. Called party plates in ohio......lol 1960 was yellow also and of course I have that one too.......LOL

Re: State antique license plates who has e'm ?

I got a set of 68 plates for my truck, but I haven't registered it yet. I'm hoping I can register it as a 68, but may not be able to since the cab is a 72 (the frame is stamped). I have both titles for the 68 and 72. Also, the painter removed the VIN from the cab when he painted it. I also have the VIN from the original 68 cab.

When I do register it, I have to have it inspected by the state patrol, so I guess I'll see what they say. I really don't want to call it a 72 since it has the 67-68 front clip on it (I guess it really looks like a 67 since the side markers are shaved)

Re: State antique license plates who has e'm ?

update for Mississippi:

i emailed to ask them about the YOM tags, & this is the response:

"Yes, we do offer this. We call it a historic tag. You will have to supply the original tag. The tag can have any county name on it. It doesn't have to have the name of your county. The tag has to be the same year as your vehicle. You will have to restore the plate before submitting it. You will have to bring the tag to your local county tax collector's office and apply the be able to use the historic plate. The county office will submit the plate to the state tax commission for approval. After the tax commission approves it or disapproves it, the tax commission will mail the plate back to your county. Your county will notify you at this point and let you know if it was approved or not."

also, whether the tag needs to be restored or not is a judgement call on their part

Re: State antique license plates who has e'm ?

I live in Washington state and I wanted to get original plates for my '51 and thought about it for the '71. I asked about the rules that go with the plates for Wa, and they told me that you can only drive it to car shows and to and inmkji98 parades. No towing hauling anything or pleasure driving. I said; ok, thanks I think I'll get the regular plates.

I'm not going to have any vehicle that I'm only going to drive a hand full of times a year.

Re: State antique license plates who has e'm ?

Colorado just allowed year of manufacture plates, they're supposed to be for "leisure", but they really don't state what that means, so I'm using them all the time.

Had the 68 plates when I lived in TX, did the yearly inspections and no restrictions/no problems. These were the "classic" option, not the "antique". They do restrict use on "antique" since you skip inspections.

I've bought a few sets of these (cool gift for gearhead buddies) off eBay and never paid more than $25 a set for nice ones from Texas and Colorado. You just have to look for a while.

Just read all the posts on how to do it. It is a near-nightmare to find that information! I tried just before giving up and just paying the $67 for the yearly registration, the same as on my 07!

Oh, and did you see all the cooool plates Texas has added to the DMV tag choices? Some very nice retro-style plates in there. I just bought this one!

The plates on my 67 (Cali black plates w/67 tags) Not year correct but license starts with a "c" and I have a set for my 72 K-10 that starts with a "k". I thought that would be cool!

Re: State antique license plates who has e'm ?

This plate is for my 1968 50th Anniversary Fleetside

18 - is the code for the County I live in, LEE County,
G - is for Commercial truck. ( ok so its not a commercial Truck )
50 - ties it all in

In Florida you have to send your vintage License Plate in to Tallahassee to be AUTHENTICATED.
They check to make sure its a real Florida plate and that the tag # is not already in use, and that it is the same year as the Car or Truck you are registoring it to.

Im sending mine in now to be Authenticated, see my paper work
And there are no driving limits or restrictions

In Georgia you are allowed to use yom plates in lieu of hobby plates but only for 1970 and older. Of course I have a 71 and 72 so I cant.

Nobody from Michigan yet?

At any rate, it's $35 for an "authentic", or year of manufacture plate. They are non expiring, but only for hobby use (parades, car shows, cruises, not daily transportation).

I have them on my classic cars, but not my truck - it's still a couple years too young!

Re: State antique license plates who has e'm ?

Just got Kentucky "Historic Motor Vehicle" plates this week. $53 one time fee, no renewal, no inspection. State Farm Antique insurance is $52 a year with these plates. Kentucky only requires rear plates but was given 2 plates and was told "its an extra to keep clean and put on for shows". Plates came with a message statement that says...
"Historic Vehicle" shall mean all motor vehicles 25 yrs old or older, which are used primarily for exhibition in shows, parades, tours, and other special uses, but not for general transportation."

The use of "primarily" means I can drive my truck when ever I feel the need!...at least in my mind!

that sounds like our "horseless carriage" plates, you can only drive less than 5k miles per year to keep these plates, and for pleasure only.

Re: State antique license plates who has e'm ?

I had them in Virginia. A good friend of mine told me to go ahead and get the state inspection sticker, the law would not mess with you then, I did. One night returning home from 2nd shift I got stop. After dark and antique tags, The officer checked the inspection sticker and told me to have a good night. My friend led me down the right road.

Re: State antique license plates who has e'm ?

My 67' came from Kansas with origanl year tags registered, too bad I couldn't switch them to AR. But the seller told me that he got pulled over ALL the time because the local cops didn't even recognize the law, never got a ticket, but pretty inconvenient from the way he talked about it. So, I just put the original KS tag on the front bumper and I got my antique AR tag on the back.

RCW 46.16.307
Collectors' vehicles — Use restrictions.

A collectors' vehicle licensed under RCW 46.16.305(1) may only be used for participation in club activities, exhibitions, tours, parades, and occasional pleasure driving.

[1996 c 225 § 11.]

RCW 46.16.305
Special license plates — Continuance of earlier issues — Conditions for current issues.

The department shall continue to issue the categories of special plates issued by the department under the sections repealed under section 12 (1) through (7), chapter 250, Laws of 1990. Special license plates issued under those repealed sections before January 1, 1991, are valid to the extent and under the conditions provided in those repealed sections. The following conditions, limitations, or requirements apply to certain special license plates issued after January 1, 1991:

(1) A horseless carriage plate and a plate or plates issued for collectors' vehicles more than thirty years old, upon payment of the initial fees required by law and the additional special license plate fee established by the department, are valid for the life of the vehicle for which application is approved by the department. When a single plate is issued, it shall be displayed on the rear of the vehicle.

(2) The department may issue special license plates denoting amateur radio operator status only to persons having a valid official radio operator license issued by the federal communications commission.

(3) The department shall issue one set of special license plates to each resident of this state who has been awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for use on a passenger vehicle registered to that person. The department shall issue the plate without the payment of licensing fees and motor vehicle excise tax.

(4) The department may issue for use on only one motor vehicle owned by the qualified applicant special license plates denoting that the recipient of the plate is a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, to persons meeting all of the following criteria:

(a) Is a resident of this state;

(b) Was a member of the United States Armed Forces on December 7, 1941;

(c) Was on station on December 7, 1941, during the hours of 7:55 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Hawaii time at Pearl Harbor, the island of Oahu, or offshore at a distance not to exceed three miles;

(d) Received an honorable discharge from the United States Armed Forces; and

(e) Is certified by a Washington state chapter of the Pearl Harbor survivors association as satisfying the qualifications in (c) of this subsection.

The department may issue such plates to the surviving spouse of any deceased Pearl Harbor survivor who met the requirements of this subsection. If the surviving spouse remarries, he or she shall return the special plates to the department within fifteen days and apply for regular plates. The surviving spouse must be a resident of this state.

The department shall issue these plates upon payment by the applicant of all other license fees, but the department may not set or charge an additional fee for these special license plates.

(5) Effective with registrations that are due or become due on or after January 1, 2009, the department may issue for use on motor vehicles owned by the qualified applicant special license plates denoting that the recipient of the plate is a parent of a member of the United States armed forces who died while in service to his or her country or as a result of such service to persons meeting all of the following criteria:

(a) Is a resident of this state; and

(b) Is a mother or father of a member of the United States armed forces who died while in service to his or her country or who died as a result of such service, as certified by the Washington state department of veterans affairs.

The department shall issue these plates upon payment by the applicant of all other license fees, but the department may not set or charge an additional fee for these special plates.

(6) The department shall replace, free of charge, special license plates issued under subsections (3) through (5) of this section if they are lost, stolen, damaged, defaced, or destroyed. Such plates shall remain with the persons upon transfer or other disposition of the vehicle for which they were initially issued, and may be used on another vehicle registered to the recipient in accordance with the provisions of RCW 46.16.316(1).

[2008 c 72 § 1. Prior: 1997 c 291 § 6; 1997 c 241 § 10; 1990 c 250 § 2.]

Notes:
Exemption -- 2008 c 72 § 1: "Section 1 of this act is exempt from the requirements of RCW 46.16.775." [2008 c 72 § 3.]
Finding -- 1997 c 291: "The legislature finds that the proliferation of special license plate series has decreased the ready identification of vehicles by law enforcement, and increased the amount of computer programming conducted by the department of licensing, thereby increasing costs. Furthermore, rarely has the actual demand for special license plates met the requesters' projections. Most importantly, special plates detract from the primary purpose of license plates, that of vehicle identification." [1997 c 291 § 1.]

Effective dates -- 1990 c 250 §§ 1-13: See note following RCW 46.16.301.

Severability -- 1990 c 250: See note following RCW 46.16.301.

I asked about a custom design/vanity, would have been another $90 total.

That off the table, I asked what the difference was, she said nothing, just that it's blue and I'd get to leave my other tag in the system for later use.

I went with the antique plate because I think the FL tags are ugly and somewhat phallic (picture of FL with oranges... don't think too hard)
