Re: 67 C-10 project.

well i guess Santa couldn't get that new 327 motor down the chimney darn it!

i did start up the l6 this morning and found my exhaust leak, it's right at the manifold and it's all welded and ugly looking. i think i'll look for a new one. is it pretty easy to replace? i also found the casting code on the block on the other side and was able to confirm 4.1 litre motor. i'll see if i can get the entire code and figure out what year it is so i can make sure i get the right parts.

well good luck you would probably be better off getting a 283 and finding the ram horns for those

Re: 67 C-10 project.

well today i pulled my hood off and removed the drivers side hood hinge. the rivit was nearly rusted off, so i ground it all of the way off. i found a collared washer, not sure what you call it. look like it would go inside a rubber grommett, andways it fit the hole perfectly and was a little bit long so i ground it down and got a bolt and two nuts and put it back together. it still seems a bit off to me, but it's working and will be good for now . i also got my antique tag for the truck and installed it so now i'm legal to drive it around! bled my brakes in an attempt to get them working better, and it helped a little bit but not much. i see new brake pads in my future. not much of an update, but it's a little something!

Re: 67 C-10 project.

well, i found a guy on craigslist that is making a trailer out of a 79 chevy truck. i'm going to see if i can get the front crossmember and everything. from what i've read so far i thing it will bolt right on. if it has power steering, what will i need to get it to work? i have a 250 6 cyl now, and no power steering pump, but the brackett is there. will the steering box bolt to the frame with out modification? should i try and get the brake booster as well?

well matt at the top corner of both ends on a 67 tail gate you will notice a speed bump that almost goes to the top and it goes around the bottom and to the other side ,on a 68 gate that speed bump stops around where the lathches at both end and69 there is an indentation and not a bump i will try to get pictures of the differences

thanks you eric i have studied the 67s and now it pays off ,every time i go to pickup a tail gate and the say it is a 67 gate i can look for trim holes and that will say 67 68 or 69 72 and then i can look at the back and see if it is really a 67 gate

Re: 67 C-10 project.

cool thanks for the info Rick! You are the 67 Man
well today the weather here was unseasonably warm! 63 degrees! so i had to work on the truck. it took me two and a half hours but i was able to finally get the front bumper off!! using a grinder, vice grips and a c-clamp and a large 1/2 inch drive socket! i thought that i might be able to salvage the bumper...it's pretty mangled and bent, but the metal is tough! oh well, to the back of the truck it went along with the mangled braces. the good news is that the bumper did it's job and the sheet metal behind the bumper is all nice and straight! So i guess i'm a couple hundred bucks away from a new bumper. think i should get chrome or painted? I'm leaning towards chrome. once i finished that i wanted to look at my back brakes. i took the rear drivers side off first, and it's trashed! i thought that i had a wheel cylinder that was bad, but now i think that the axel seal went out! it smells just like rear end lube. a greasy mess! And when i push the brake pedal, the wheel cylinder is not actuating at all. So, i have that issue. i put that tire back on and moved over to the other side. on this side, the drum was so rusted, i could not get it off. i got it loose, but it's hung up on the brake pads or some thing. i ran out of time. yikes, so i don't think i have any rear brakes at all. i took some pictures and fooled around with other things...

Re: 67 C-10 project.

yeah, chrome bumpers it's going to be. I found a place here in Wichita that i saw advertising in some of the truck magazines, called Bow Tie Bits. Anybody ever dealt with them? I'm going to try and make it down there sometime in the next week or two and see about getting some parts. i've spent hours and hours reading some of the other build threads on here and it's killing me not being able to just go out and get lots of work done! it was so nice yesterday , 63 degrees, today it's like 25 . i think i have found a 67 327 motor on craigslist not too far from me if the guy will answer my e-mail! 400 bucks and it runs strong, but smokes a little. i can handle that!

Re: 67 C-10 project.

i don't think it was a custom. it was set up for a camper. there was no trim. it did have a panasonic am radio in the dash, but i don't think it was original. i should have taken some pictures of it, but i didn't think about it till after i'd left...i'll have more tomorrow. I might get the sun visor as well, it's blue, but looked to be in good shape.

Re: 67 C-10 project.

ya 67 low grade models have only a driver sun visor the reason i asked about the c 20 was thinking if it had the special horn button they look better than the regular horn button it would be complenting your interior nicely!

Re: 67 C-10 project.

here's a picture of the other stuff i got, the gauges will be a challenge. I assume that it will drive the requirement for a new wiring harness. i planned on doing that anyways all this stuff for $75.
