Re: 71 c10, upgrades/rebuild-my first truck

and i still need a truck. cause although my chevy is a pretty truck i use to haul trash, lumber, w.e. i need honestly. with the dodge i could get a trailer to take the chevy to a shop if theres something i can't do and not have to pay for a tow truck.

Re: 71 c10, upgrades/rebuild-my first truck

soo if anybody actually reads this thread i have a question. i found a set of mostly rust free factory doors, that have been gutted. is 80 dollars a door worth it? the doors are straight.

Definitely worth $80-$100 if solid, and more if they aren't cut for speakers.

they're fairly solid. one has a soft spot on the inner bottom back corner of the passenger door. and neither door are cut up

Re: 71 c10, upgrades/rebuild-my first truck

i know its been a long time since my last post but i've been busy with school and work. i've been putting in 40 hour work weeks and school full time, and a new gf to throw into the mix. needless to say spare time has been rare. but with all my hours at work i've built my bank account back up and it's time to start spoiling my big yellow truck =)

friday after the check clears i'm buying my 3.5/5 drop FINALLY, and an engine kit for my 355 i have just "laying around" lol. next check after that i'm buying the cam. i already have a 355 4 bolt main block, forged crank, rods, .030 pistons, 2.02 fuelie heads that are ported and polished with 62 cc combustion chambers =), alternator, brackets, water pump, offenhauser intake, msd distributer. so i've got all of my motor except for a carb, cam, and a flywheel/starter. how does a .480 lift sound to you guys? yeah i've decided to take the plunge and build a v8 to go into it

Re: 71 c10, upgrades/rebuild-my first truck

Cool build! I had a 70 CST I drove in high school, traded it for a motorcycle in 2005 and have regretted it everyday. I bought my 71 in 2010 to become my DD again and enjoy every minute of it. I'd look at something a little larger on the cam. I had a 355 in my 70 with stock milled heads, intake, carb, and a Crane 272H, and it was a great match. So I'm thinking go with something with a little more lift like .500 or just under, and a decent duration to allow you head work to shine. If you go short lift short duration, your cylinders don't have time to fill as full as possible. Big thing is choose the gears first, because you need to know where the truck is RPM wise, before your can determine where you need the power ie. cam specs!

My old pickup for inspiration.

Re: 71 c10, upgrades/rebuild-my first truck

Re: 71 c10, upgrades/rebuild-my first truck

Cut coils and stock leafs out back. It was level when I got it, and I blew up the rear springs and couldn't afford to have them dearched, so it got a raked stance!

Re: 71 c10, upgrades/rebuild-my first truck

well plans for the 454 fell through =/ not too sad about it though. i started up the old truck the other day and remembered how much i love the sound of the old 250. the end of the semester is coming up for summer break so hopefully i'll have some BIG progress to talk about on here. by the end of the summer i want my suspension to be done, do a valve job, rebuild the carb, and put my 3:73 rearend back in. i'm really curious to see how she moves with the 3:73s and 5 speed and a fresh top end.

Re: 71 c10, upgrades/rebuild-my first truck

Today I got another steal on some parts for my truck. I traded my old rims and tires and 80 dollars for a full set of 17" torq thrusts with good tires. 255 60 17s

pretty happy, just put them on they fit and look great. and i don't think i could beat the price.

i'll post pics of them on the truck tmrw when it's day light.

Re: 71 c10, upgrades/rebuild-my first truck

well still haven't had a chance to put the suspension on, but I did manage to get my friend's shop clean so that I can work in it. Since he never uses it I can take my time and do it up right.

just a small update to keep this threat alive
