Well the water jet cut guys down the street said they can't cut the glass cause the surface is curved. Hhhmmmmm? Plexiglass? Need to find a solution, cheap of course! lol Thank you OrrieG

A typical water jet shop only has 3-axis machines so they can't cut curved. A few shops will have a 5-axis and they would have the potential to do it. But finally you have to find one that has both the equipment AND the know-how.

Very cool build Aero!!

If you have a glass shop that cuts plate glass, you may be able to find one that has the ability to send it off and have it tempered. We do this a good bit at our shop for guys that don't want laminated glass.

*Edit, nevermind that ^^, you said it was curved...

Well today got the side window in. This window comes from the rear of the original trailer.

Well that window removed started the ball rolling to add a rear door. Have to make the opening first.

Today was riveting, lil joke there. Ran out of rivets so I ordered more. Got the vents in though. Pretty cool design. From the closed position they first rise at an angle. When they reach a certain angle a spring then forces the cover to go up level.

Wood bracing to install another rib ( ordered more rivets ) for the center to stiffen the roof. I don't think it would be able to support a snow load without buckling.

Well I had thought of having it sprayed with urethne foam as insulation then to have that sprayed with Line-X in it's natural state which is a light grey to protect the foam. Nobody's really into that idea. Everyone seems to prefer raw aluminum sheets for an interior finish. I'll have to watch more HGTV maybe hire an interior decorator. Are you available? LOL.

Awesome little Stream! We had a old timer park next to us at the Little Sahara sand dunes on Oklahoma one time that and he showed us pictures of his pride and joy Air Stream, which he spent like 2 years polishing it and you couldn't even tell the pictures were of the camper because all you seen was reflections of it's surroundings. It was cool and I enjoy people that have the drive to perfect things.

Got some windows from a trailer being parted out of London Ontario. Installed the 8X32 along side the door to brighten up that side.

Began to install a curved 8X32 above the rear door cutout. Gonna have to install a clear plastic lense to this one to compensate for the curve in the shell. Have a lead on a door and frame from a trailer being parted out in Mobile Al. The door will have to be modified but the ectrusions are stiffer than the window frames I was thinking of using.

The rear curves beside the proposed new door opening are close to the front curvature. I got the matching curved windows off the trailer from Ontario. Once the door is installed they'll go in.

Thanks for the inspiration, yes the dust is starting to collect on the Airstream. The building it's housed in, I'm renovating in exchange for space.

Finding the door and frame have been a priority each day. There should be a grave yard for old airstreams but I haven't found it yet. Most doors are pre 74 and I'd like the doors to match as much a possible.

Cut a couple of notches in the door and frame extrusions to copy the arch to match the back of the trailer and with a dry fit reveals that I can go with a full height door.

That's going to make it even easier to install. I have to widen the frames 17 1/2" to make this work but I won't have to adjust for height. Now the hindges on the otherhand will require some wedges to compensate for the new curve.

Making progress. I cut the bottom of the frame that rivets to the shell and it's similar to the extrusion for the sides and top only it's missing the interior clip for the interior molding. That's a no brainer. I,ll use this piece at the top of the frame.

The door frame I split in two and installed the inner panels to start because I had a sheet of .064 aluminum sheet and it fits in the groove for the interior panel. So I'll have to go get a sheet of .032 for the exterior of the door. Need to figure out how to lengthen the door frame top and bottom. This extrusion is unlike anything lse on the trailer. Wonder if Airstream still uses the same extrusion?
