Re: 66 Build

Thanks for the compliments guys! I actually borrowed that grille idea from a post I saw by Lakeroadster? some time back. Can't remember what site I saw it on either.

Finally got the inside of the passenger door painted. Got door mounted today. Had a little grief getting it to fit in the jamb nice. But I won.

Re: 66 Build

Worked on fitting A/C housing and inner fender together. Had to mod the inner fender and A/C housing (Tire clearance is somewhat tight. I will try get a photo later.) . I started on this last spring and got sidetracked onto other items - now am back to the front end. For those who don't recall. I am installing a A/C from my donor truck a 1987 R20 which was converted to 134A.

Tonight after work I mixed up some tintable bedliner and sprayed the inner fenders inside and out the body color. I think they look sweet!

Re: 66 Build

That does look nice!!!
I am kinda wishin' that I would have done that with the underside of my truck!
Mine shines too much for something that I want to drive the crap out of, and I don't know how I will keep it clean!
Seriously, no kidding on this subject.

Arrow Re: 66 Build

These shots show tire clearance to inner fender. I'm using 2.5 drop spindles and expect to install 1" lower springs yet. 3/4 ton truck with 1/2 ton springs in front now. Also need to move steering arm 1 spline over to make this side turn shorter and center the steering.

Re: 66 Build

Tonight I did a lot of head scratching. Spent most of the time working out a plan to mount the A/C condensor. With my plan I have to move the battery box 3/4-1" over to clear the refrigerant lines. I used the mounts off the 87 donor truck. One thing I dislike is that I will not get full air flow across the condensor. About 10-15% is blocked. I will be trimming the lower part of the grille support around the condensor as well. I sprayed some semigloss black on the support and called it a day for now.

Cool Re: 66 Build

More pics of the front end & A/C install. I slod the battery over about 3/4 inch and up 1". Notched the radiator support for a/c lines to have a clear route.

Re: 66 Build

I've been looking at the a/c condenser for nearly a week and I hate how the mounting turned out. So I went to the big book(Google) and researched what other cars had similar hose ends on the condenser that also was shorter by a good bit. I ended up setting my sights on a condenser from a mid 80's Corvette. I was surprised at how readily available they are used. So the Fed ex truck showed up today with one. I was also happy with how easy it was to bend the lines for hookup. I like the look a whole lot better.

Re: 66 Build

I started to fit the grille support. Guess what, I forgot all about the hood latch location when I located my condenser. Ended up cutting the radiator support on the driver side by 1/2 inch. Moving the condenser back as far as I could into the opening. Boy does it fit tight! looks like it will just clear the latch now.

Re: 66 Build

Got paint on the top and windshield installed. Started working on the hood. Lots of hail dents on the 40+ year old hood. Found a small spot of rust on the lip, working on repairing. Put bed liner on the underside of hood.

Getting ready to start putting doors together. Ordered all the rubber - rivets etc. Should be in today. Found an article on the door locks from Custom Classsic Trucks Apr 2001 edition. I bought a copy off ebay and scanned it to a pdf. I'll try and attach it. I had to compress the PDF files to get them on the forum. I can e-mail them to any who want a higher quality document. Its about 5MB in size.
