1. Whichever color I choose the interior metal should be the same color.

2. The tailgate on the custom deluxe will have the upper and lower trim. Not the Chevrolet wood grain bar (and I'm glad).

3. If painted solid orange, then letters on the tailgate should be white. Not sure of the color code for that white yet.

3. All upper/belt moldings have black infill regardless of trim level. Lower body side moldings were installed with both black or wood grained infill. The black is correct for the Custom. Again I'm glad. Not quite as fond of the wood grain.

4. The correct orange colors are 516 and 524. The one pictured in the OP is 524 Hugger/Red-Orange. Incidentally, I prefer the 524.

Thanks for all your help. This is great.
You "have it" for the most part. Well done!

The only interior metal paint that will be different is the upper dash forward of the pad. It is a flat anti-glare measure keyed to the trim code/color.

The White for the two-tones, tailgate letters, bumper (if painted) and the wheels are all the same code 521.

The Hugger Orange and White in Deluxe Two-Tone (code 458) is a hard to beat iconic scheme.

But if Blue is still in contention here is a shot of the Dark Blue in Deluxe Two-Tone (code 482). Shall we call it 1A?? :-)

At this point before going off the the paint shop we should talk about interior colors too. Anyway you look at it black is the easiest and works well with any of the base colors and combinations brought up in the thread.

Also if we are keeping to a stock 71 Custom Deluxe interior, both carpet and bucket seats were not offered.

Re: Which of these colors should I paint my truck?

I vote the two tone Hugger orange/white with orange interior dash and black seats. (Of course that's what I have and I think it's the sharpest color scheme from the garishly colorful '70s).

Not sure I understand this: "The only interior metal paint that will be different is the upper dash forward of the pad. It is a flat anti-glare measure keyed to the trim code/color."

The metal atop the dash where the defrost vents are is a flat finish to reduce glare and is color keyed to match the dash pad. As an example, on my orange/white K20 with parchment interior a black dash pad was used and the metal atop the dash was painted flat black (dash is otherwise orange). My medium olive K5 with a saddle interior came with a saddle pad and the metal is painted flat saddle (dash is otherwise med olive). So, the metal atop the dash may or may not match the interior color but should match the pad.

Re: Which of these colors should I paint my truck?

Its not a real noticable color change on some trucks.
Basically the upper flat of the dash between the windshield and the dash pad is painted a flat color. The actual color is dependent on the trim code and color. On an original paint truck it is clearly evident with the pad removed. There are several threads like this.

Re: Which of these colors should I paint my truck?

Okay, three pictures. Under the hood and undercarriage are pretty clean. Most of the interior is like new. The bed was sure a nice find. The inside of it couldn't have been used much. Just a few small details to work out. The original was thrashed and had the saddle doors.

1.

2.

3.

Re: Which of these colors should I paint my truck?

Nice looking start there! I see you have the Two-Tone divider molding (D99) already on the cab. So a Two-Tone would be an easy build.

Thinking it would look great in either of the Blue over Blue Custom Two-Tones (code 559 or 558). Add in a lowerbodyside molding to continue the front bumper and bling up the rear. Black interior too. It would be a unique yet understated look for a truck packing a big block.

Re: Which of these colors should I paint my truck?

The truck pictured as #3 is painted in the Special Two-Tone style. While correct for 69-70 trucks and 69-72 suburbans it was not offered in 71-72 on pickups that I am able to document.

2 tone ,with all the trim. Blue is my choice(biased) either is great though. If you want to be seen - orange , if you want a bit more class - blue. It will ultimately be your personality that will make the final choice - Both are great.

That's not 481 dude? EDIT: Ooops, I see #3 disappeared. You can still copy and paste the image URL. I believe that's a 591. The color schemes you provided really come in handy.

The wheels that you said you liked in your original post look to be the Corvette style rallys, with tri-bar caps. I had those on my White '67.(pics below) the only difference is mine had the straight bars on the caps and the ones on the Blue/White truck look like the curved bars.
