Off the shelf replacement mufflers should give you some choice of sound level and they will all be relatively the same size so swapping one for another will be a piece of cake.

You probably have a stock one or two sitting around that you can build the exhaust system around to get you started.

I am moving in this direction, glad to hear ya'll agree. I was investigating sounds of the 2 trucks that I have with the stock setup. The 6.0 Denali vs. 5.3 is significant. The 6.0 definitely has a little burble and the 5.3 does not. A quick look underneath revealed the the 6.0 muffler is different - soooo, since I have a complete 6.0 exhaust system from a Yukon with the dual inlet muffler like I listened to - I'll be scrapping what I did last night. No biggie since I only spent an hour on it. I'll get that system loose this weekend and delete the cats on it again. The muffler is dual in - dual out, but on a Yukon it converges into 1 right after the exit. I wonder what it sounds like separate vs. merged?

Like your idea of 4 link in rear. I want to use a newer chassis for my suburban also and the wheelbase will be different no matter what I use (stock is 127"). That makes the change in wheelbase easier with the good ride.

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

On my 5.3L in LowBuk I have stock camaro manifolds with 2.5" duals out to a 3" merge right behind the trans then it goes from their the single pipe goes to the flow master in and out. It is mellow but you can tell their is something under the hood that is not stock.
With that being said I think with your build I would go with a stock set up you have around their and down the road you can swap out for a cat back set up that is made for your truck if you want a change.

I agree, I've got a free exhaust system, why not use it. I can always change it later when I'm bored with it.

No cats on yours? How does she run??

Does anyone know if you gain much by deleting the cats?

I am too cheap to buy an aftermarket air system since they are over $1000. I have 3 of these new style units left over, and it is factory engineered ready to plug into my harness. I'll have to make it fit somehow if it kills me.

Yes, a shrink ray would be quite handy about now.

Have you looked at what they run on the used parts market? Maybe you can sell them and pick up a vintage air with the money?

You've done some terrific work on this project, but I don't think that unit is going to fit under your dash.

Yea. Until the unit re-expands after install and tears the truck apart.

These factory AC systems never die and never get smashed in a wreck, so there is no market for them at all - that's why I still have 3.

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can......

Re: ** YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN** The truck Chevrolet should have built.

What about pulling the stock dash off the firewall, fit up the A/C unit then reinstall the stock dash over the top. You could then locate the stock metal dash panel a little farther off the firewall than it was stock to give you the room you need. Some metal filler panels on the dash top and sides will be needed but it can still look stock when you are done, just stretched a little.

I like it, sounds like a good fallback plan. Nobody would ever really realize the change I suspect.

Much talent in this build, thank you again for sharing!

Nice job shoehorning that in

It doesn't stick down that much lower than a stock A/C box actually...probably 3-4" or so more....
...are you going to be able to integrate the controls somehow?
