Thanks for the compliment. I kind of think of this as what a 1967 C-10 SS optioned truck might have been if such a thing had been available back in the day.

The truck was put together as a nice well optioned low key hotrod driver...not as a show truck. The modern Gen VI GM crate 454HO (425hp/500Ft-Lbs) has a forged bottom end, 8.75 compression and a mild roller cam from the factory. The mild lope from the cam breathing thru the long tube headers makes for an awesome exhaust note, both at idle and rolling down the road. The built 700R4 with the 3.42 gears has the engine turning right at 3,000rpm at 65mph so fuel mileage is pretty much what you would expect from this combo with a 750cfm Holley..not so good but this isn't my daily driver so I never checked the fuel mileage. (I drive a VW Diesel Golf for my daily driver which knocks down 45-ish mpg). I thought about going fuel injection but the price (>$2,500) shot that plan down! Everything is tight with this truck's suspension. It is slightly lowered, has 60 series radials on all 4 corners and with everything new in the suspension it holds the road well for a 47 year old truck with power steering, power brakes and air conditioning. The 4 wheel disc brakes stop sure and true....for a 47 year old truck. I am still a kid at heart (53 years old) so when I feel the need, this truck will light both of them up (posi rearend) on command and stay there until I let off of it.

The negatives...The truck has a lot of non-OEM body panels so gaps and lines are not perfect, the doors take a good slam to shut, and the paint is about an 8.5 out of 10 (small imperfections). There is absolutely no rust anywhere on this truck. And finally, even with everything new in the rear I still have a light gear whine after 3 attempts to get it perfect...the last time of which I paid a professional ($$$) to set up and he did no better than I did!

Hopefully that answered the "how it runs and performs" question.

Very nice write up, I appreciate that. I am in the middle of a very similar build on my '68 short step COPO Concept. My engine is a 427 w/ 10.5:1 compression ratio, closed chamber oval port heads, and a fairly mild hydraulic flat tappet cam and it was dyno'd at 491 hp/564 Tq at the flywheel. I expect it to be a nice little sleeper when it's done. My progress has been slow, but seeing nice trucks like yours motivates me to get it going.

Thanks guys....Mine looks like a pretty decent sleeper to the untrained eye but the Hedman ceramic coated (silver) long tubes are clearly visible underneath from 10' away and any "sleeper mode" completely disappears once I crank the 454. It also likes gas stations....A LOT!

FYI this was a 3+ year build

It's like a weekend trip lol, yeah single color, I flirted with the thought of a white grill but think I'll just stick with solid red

Just finished a 4.5/7 drop and some new wheels. Looks way better than the 80's Progressive wheels that it had when I bought it!
