I had the bed all painted and my budy decided to change the lines on the top of the tailgate and the front panel. Bed should be painted in the week and then body work will start on the cab. I will get pics in my thread here in the next week or two.

Looks good, Mike. Can't wait to see the fenders all smooth either! Oh, and I know all about getting pushed aside for insurance work. But it's definitely understood that insurance work is their bread and butter!! Looking forward to more progress.

well, a little bored at work this morning so i took my new 140 amp alt apart , so i can try my hand at smoothing one out

Looks good so far. Even the greats had to start at the beginning. And yeh, grinders, cutting wheels, hammers and body filler can work miracles. Wish I could bring parts to work.

hey, just a heads up, be careful when you paint it. i tried painting my aluminum intake and paint would not stick to it. finally i bought some etching mag cleaner, cleaned it about 5 times with it, then the paint stuck very good. i totally forgot about this when i tried painting my alternator...the paint just flaked right off. i got pissed and put it together anyways, but i plan on taking it apart and cleaning it just like i did the intake and re shooting it.

This is an Awesome project! I wish I had found it earlier in the build. You sure have came a long way from where you started. Gonna be so slick!

theres a special etching primer for aluminium its a clearish mustard yelow (in the days i used it ) and you only aply a mist of it on the aluminium before painting , it does help to have the cast aluminium clean enough to eat off as its verry porious (lots of microscopic holes and cravises that hold dirt)

well here is last nights progress , when i got to the shop my builder said " i want you to work on those front frame horns" i said Mark i am just going to leave those spots alone... Mark says " you can either do it tonight or i will do it tomorrow , either way its getting done !! " so here is what i did, and now i am glad i did it

I did do the top lip of the rail on the pass side & thought about removing the 'pads' for the steering box but ultimately left them.

For the lip, I simply made some relief cuts, straightened the steel (cresent wrench + a hammer/dolly), welded things back up, & then trimmed the rail slightly to have a better transition fore/aft of the area. I did remove the pads for the idler arm as they interfered w/my reinforcment plates I made for the R&P c-notches.

I like the mod on the front of the frame too. It's going to look like it came that way when you get it welded and smoothed out. Nice!

Project is looking awesome! I agree with you as far as saving money and doing as much stuff as you can yourself. That's the whole fun behind these vehicles isn't it!? I have some questions though...Did you ever take off your cab from the frame? If not why not? and those front frame horns...What was there before? It's a good thing you filled in those holes, it looks a lot better! How are those Bear Claw latches treating you? I'm having some difficuilty with my stock latches now...Thinkin' about some new ones.

my cab has been off of my frame prob 50 times........ the holes or dimples in the front frame horn were where the power steering bolted up, i never did the bear claw latches , decided to stick with the original, and thank you
