Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

Well i finaly broke down and replaced the passenger door hindge pins and bushings. I was tired of wife slaming door so hard she moved the mirror. I now remember why i have been putting it off for so long. Had to cut the old pins in half so i could take them out. Door shuts like new and body lines once again line up rite.

I don't suppose you have pictures of the process... this is a much needed item for my truck. And when you say pins, you mean the actual pins going through the hinges, you had to cut them in half? Due to rust?

That job sucks but at least on a square body the hinges all bolt on and can easily be replaced. The next body style they welded them to the body tub. Mine wore through the bronze into the steel and were a real pain to replace.

After that burnout I bet your neighbors loce you too

I have done a set on the newer trucks and this was a cake walk compared to that. I just took the 6 bolts out that hold door on and straped the door to rafters in garage to susspend it was way better then last one i did. That burn out took about .5 seconds to do. It jumped forwards and i let out. I dont think they like us do to stray dog staying around our house. They all think it is ours.

No sorry no pics. Yes the pin that goes threw the 2 hinge halfs. One is bolted to the door and the other half to the cab. I cut them to speed up the process. I had been trying to knock them threw the top and was having no luck so i cut them.

It is really not that hard to do if you can suspend your door from something. I took the 6 mount bolts out of the door, pulled door out as far as i could with out dissconecting the wires, removed pin, removed what was left of the old bushings, taped new bushings in and greased everything and installed new pins. Then bolted door back up and that is pretty much it. Got pins and bushings from autozone. PN 38400 i think. I was so happy the body lines were rite again and door shut with ease. Now i just have to do driver side. I will take pics of that side when i do it.

That'd be awesome man... I'm really new to a lot of this stuff and (like everything else) don't feel comfortable doing something until I know [I]exacyly[I] how to do it... lame I know but I'm working on getting over my fears HAHA. Plus I can't start the build for another few months, in the process of moving. I'm rambling. Thanks, look forward to the pics.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

I would think anything under a 1 3/4" would be leaving power on the table for your 6.0.

Torque is strong on my 6.0 with 1 7/8" headers but of course it has the L92/LS3 heads. If these DT's are the best fit for your truck...I think they'd be my 1st choice over a 1 3/4" header that I had to mod/work around things for.

They are the only fit for my truck. I wont spend money on something that wont work and i most likely can not send back. The only other option is the shoenfold or what ever headers that may work. Same price. I just dont want to loose low end power. What size exhaust pipes would you recomend and what muffs. I like the flowmasters but sometimes they sound like junk glasspacks. It may just be my crappy exhasut tho.

x2

They look to be a nice setup. Are they 4x4 friendly?

I see they fit both 2wd & 4x4. Why can't all the headers be that way.

I see those are for 67-72 trucks? I wonder how they know which aftermarket engine mounts you will use... I'd probably call their tech support before ordering. Very nice looking units! I was looking for Doug's headers instead of Doug Thorley headers with no luck.

The square body clamshell mounts are actually less obtrusive than the 67-72 ones are so the headers should clear even better on a square body or a 67-72 that has been converted to clamshell mounts, but...

I'd still probably call them to make sure as they my have been designed for a specific engine mount adapter plate and engine placement. I know the S&P headers don't fit well with some of the other brand engine mounts & adapter plates. Being ceramic coated you don't have any easy options to modify them to fit your application if they were designed for a different engine placement.
