Re: 66 frame off resto-mod
We decided to have the motor looked at (with the yard's verbal permission) so it is at the motor shop now. I hope to have an answer on this motor as soon as tonight. At least Santa in the big brown truck came!

Re: 66 frame off resto-mod
This is exactly what I'd like to do with mine. How was the project of getting the engine, trans, and drivetrain all connected. Did you have to update gauges as well for sensors? Also what parts were you able to keep and trim from the silverado setup?

For the gauges, I will likely run extra sending units on the engine, I already have an electronic Speedo and fuel gauge and volt that should work so I only need water temp and oil pressure sending units and there are places on the block to locate these. You can get something like the Aeroforce Interceptor gauge to read stuff from the computer directly and not use extra sending units if you choose. The other option would be to use the BCM and gauge cluster from the donor truck and trim to fit. Basically, I am not doing much to the Interior as it is not in my budget so I need to cobble together what I can for this round. I hope to save up a little and be able to get the Interior stuff done at a later date. |

Re: 66 frame off resto-mod
The final one of the series. I was a little suprised at the amount of rot that is in the cab but RRC tells me it's all fairly normal and expected.

Motor News
Funny you should ask... Just got off the phone with RRC and we may have the damage total. Looks like to may just be one rod bent and piston that was hitting the crank counterweight. I should know more by tonight, but that's the latest! If that is the extent of it, I may soon have a usable motor!

Re: 66 frame off resto-mod
That is the guess, so far the piston, rod, bearing, and rings are something like $240 from the local GM dealer. Nothing was mentioned about the crank so I hope the shop that is doing the motor work did check it. What would you suggest as the method of checking?

Re: 66 frame off resto-mod
Well, it looks like that is it for the motor, just a piston and rod so I may be back on track.
Here are some pics of the cab repair. |
