Re: Bench Seat, Having it Reupholstered

Just finished up an 81-87 Saddle Tan Seat with NEW FOAM. This one is SOLD and will be on its way to Wyoming. The minor wrinkles will fade once it spends a day soaking up the hot sun.
First time using a new foam. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it turned out to be a good experience. Just like all the other seats I do, frame and tracks were sandblasted & repainted. Any broken springs are replaced with new. Hinge garnishes are new and painted to match the upholstery.

I'd like to know if you get more into the 71 & 72 bench seats. I'm interested and I have a decent core.

I don't see them at all. The one I did, had to be scrapped, it was rusted too bad.

Got some more seats. I had to get a storage unit to house all my Salvaged Saets.

I got my frames & tracks in there too. When I get home with the seats I saved from the Salvage Yards, I strip them completely down. Make any necessary repairs, like replace broken springs. If the frames aren't to rusty, I'll sandblast them myself or I'll take them to have them sandblasted by a guy who have a lot bigger sandblaster!! Then they get repainted.

I do all the tracks and hardware in my own cabinet. And then they too, get repainted.

Any seat foam that needs repaired, will get repaired.

In some cases, a new seat bottom foam will be used. Rebuilt kits are also used.

Re: Bench Seat, Having it Reupholstered

Have a friend at work that asks me to do his GTO Bucket seats. He has already bought everything. New covers, trim parts, springs, and foam. He just needed someone to tear them down and rebuild them. So I am going to sandblast his frames & tracks before rebuilding them. These seats were nothing but Giant mice nests!! Got everything torn down

Re: Bench Seat, Having it Reupholstered

Started sandblasting today. The ball bearings were rusted, so tracks didn’t even slide. They do now!!

Re: Bench Seat, Having it Reupholstered

You weren’t familiar with the bench seat the first time you tackled that either.

Your right, I wasn't. I know I need to try something different, I get asked a lot.

Got the tracks done. They were seized up bad, couldn't even get them to move. Well they do now!!

Tried to load a video, showing how easy the tracks slide. Not sure how that works, loading a video.

Re: Bench Seat, Having it Reupholstered

Just got back all my frames and the GTO bucket frames from sandblasting. I have a friend that does them for me, when I have a lot that needs done. All the frames are from the seats in post #96.
The buckets, I posted a before and after pic.

Re: Bench Seat, Having it Reupholstered

Let me ask, do you have any direction on how to get the belt protector 'cups' on the upholstry in a good way? Mine were not put on very well from the start and are trying to come off the seat. The little teeth inside never seem to grip well. Do I have to take the hog rings off and re-do them and then put the cover back on, or can I do it with the cover on in some way?

They are pretty difficult to set with the cover still on the seat.
