The thing that baffles me about BAT is that some things that you think will go for big money don't. And vice versa.

I guess it's that way with any auction. If you have two buyers ready to put the gloves on and duke it out then as a seller you win.

55 miles. That was probably from the sales & shop guys launching it across the back parking lot before they came to pick it up.

I was high bidder but did not meet reserve so made a deal with the seller for just over my bid. Since he was relatively local to me we drove out and picked up the truck the next weekend. I was looking for a truck with completed paint and bodywork that I could modify to my taste and that is exactly what I got. First thing I did was pull off those mirrors! Currently getting a 500hp Blueprint crate motor and TKX 5-speed.

I just saw a 74 VW Thing on BAT like the one I just bought go for $24,000.

I'm thinking that I got a good deal. I didn't pay anything close to that much.

I've always wanted to have a Thing. Two year only in US.

That's right, they were only imported in 1973 and 74. You really don't see them around anymore. This one is the first one I've seen in a loooong time.
