Re: Super rare, 15x7 (6-lug) ralley wheels

Here's a few more of the 15x7 6-hole ralleys. (not mine,... they belong to a buddy)
Shipping would be a killer,... but if anyone local wants a couple to pair up with your 15x8's,... they are for sale.
$75 each.

Re: Super rare, 15x7 (6-lug) ralley wheels

So, I found ONE of these at a swap meet yesterday, the guy wanted $25. I made him pretty mad ( I don't know why, I was being nice, and who doesn't haggle at a swap meet?) trying to get him to take $20 for it, so I had to walk away. Then the more I thought about him getting mad I got mad and decided I didn't want his stupid wheel no matter how cheap it was.
It's right up the road from my house and going on today also, I'm thinking about running back up there and grabbing it.

That's exactly what it was too, and I didn't make the time to run back there today, so no one to blame but me.

Yep, I agree.

I could be wrong.
That's what I was told by the only guy that new what I was talking about, when I said "6-lug 15x7 ralley".
He was a wheel and hubcap guy from St. Louis.

i am running 5 lug disk brakes front when you switch to 6 lug can you still put the original 6 lug steele rims without the caliper rubbing

From what I understand..... No, not without spacers. This is why I'm buying these later model 6-lug ralley wheels. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The original 67-70 6-lug steel wheels won't clear the calipers.
You can use the 73-87 4x4 steel wheels or ralleys found on trucks, blazer and suburbans. I believe the steel wheels are a 15x7's instead of the 15x6.5's of the older trucks.

Re: Super rare, 15x7 (6-lug) ralley wheels

I finally got these wheels blasted and powdercoated in a medium silver metalic. There are pairs of 7" & 8" so they can go together several ways.

I think you can see the difference, but it is very subtle because there is only 1/2" change on the inside and out.

Re: Super rare, 15x7 (6-lug) ralley wheels

Found another one!
Went to a big swap meet today,... and found this little gem.
Another 15x7 6-lug ralley wheel.
I did find out some other info.
The owner said it was the original spare on his blazer that he bought new.
It even has the L-78 dry-rotted tire still on it.

I still don't understand why GM would make two different 6-lug wheels.
Now I have another pair of them.
Here's a pic,...

Re: Super rare, 15x7 (6-lug) ralley wheels

I went to buy a set of 15x8 6 lugs. Got there and noticed two were a bit skinnier, but kept my mouth shut. Got em home and sure enough 2 of 5 were the 7". Anybody interested in a full set; 2 15x8" 2 15x7" 6 lugs for $300 plus shipping? you can have the 5th 8" for free; it has a dented lip.

No, they came out good. I did have extra clear added on the face for more gloss. It is hard to get the powder coater to clean the sand out of the grooves before they coat, but that is about all.

Re: Super rare, 15x7 (6-lug) ralley wheels

I am pretty sure the 15x7 six lugs were spares on 73 and up 4x4s. Can't really imagine why else they would have made 15x7's. Why so many sets of 4 are found is anybody's guess. Most likely the wrecking yards figured this out and sold them in sets, or did not know the difference and sold them individually as replacements for damaged wheels.
As for the 4x4 van theory, it is highly unlikely since all 4x4 vans were done after they left the factory. I have a '79 GMC Vandura 3500 with the Pathfinder 4x4 conversion and have done a bit of research on them.

Re: Super rare, 15x7 (6-lug) ralley wheels

Well, here's a few pics I took today after I spent a little time cleaning them up.

and one with the caps on

and one to show that they are 15X7's, it's hard to see but it's there.

any suggestions on removing the rust and chrome? I'm not sure if getting them blasted will get the chrome off or if I'll ness to get them acid dipped to get rid of it. Any thoughts?
