Re: you want to change your 5X5 bolt pattern on 73-87 disc to 5X4.75
gringoloco, thanks for posting those pics what are the 2 bolt patterns on your rotors?
I have a curve ball for you guys, I have a 64 C/10 and I want to run a 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern wheel!! Yes this is the anti-christ of ideas, it happens to be a Ford wheel, but almost nobody will identify it as such. I plan on running a Ford 9" in the rear so I think I have a handle on the rear. ANY HELP HERE?? |

Re: you want to change your 5X5 bolt pattern on 73-87 disc to 5X4.75
k... this thread gets a little confusing... I have some drop spindles on my truck installed by the PO. not sure what the brand is. The front is disc brakes though... Can I put the g10 rotors directly on the spindles I have now? I am pretty sure that the G10 spindles use an A3 outer bearing and an A5 inner bearing. I am trying to confirm that now, and its driving me nuts. Also, what does height mean on a rotor?

The difference is in the thickness of the rotor. The 1.25" rotors are considered HD & use one combo of bearings. The 1" rotors are considered lt duty & use a diff combo of bearings. The trucks utilized each type of rotor by using different spindles & brake assemblies (vans were the same deal). Aftermarket drop spindles are available for each brake type (HD & lt duty). You have to have the lt duty spindle to swap off the shelf car pattern rotors. To determine if you have the right spindle, measure the thickness of the rotor.

Re: you want to change your 5X5 bolt pattern on 73-87 disc to 5X4.75
thanks SCOTI, that helped a bunch. I love my drop spindles, and I don't want to have to change spindles and springs to get the same height... while searching for rims I have found it a bit difficult to find 5x5 rims I like for cheap.. and I wanted to run the 2010 camaro steelies. I guess I will just find another cheap rim.

Re: you want to change your 5X5 bolt pattern on 73-87 disc to 5X4.75
More than likely both but I would spec them for a lt duty C10 since that's a no-brainer.

Re: you want to change your 5X5 bolt pattern on 73-87 disc to 5X4.75
Hi all I know this is an old thread, but I have a question. I have a 76 c10 with the 1.25" rotor. I bought a set of used drop spindles that appear to be for the LD 81-87 truck. Both my inner and out bearings do not fit the spindle. The grease seal appears to correct. My caliper, that I just rebuilt, slides into the "pocket" of the spindle and appears that i would bolt up. My question, is this a simple change of rotors and bearings? Or am I going to need the later calipers as well, possibly brake lines too?
I am not opposed to going to the thinner rotor, I just want the least hassle. Money is an object but safety is a bigger factor. If I have to get the HD spindle I will, but if I can make this work for less I would like to go the direction I am headed. Thanks, Matt

Re: you want to change your 5X5 bolt pattern on 73-87 disc to 5X4.75
I think I should add that the outer bearing will not readily slid onto the spindle. The spindle itself has GM T cast into it as well as N357-87.

Re: you want to change your 5X5 bolt pattern on 73-87 disc to 5X4.75
Spindle, bearings, caliper and rotor ALL have to match.
So if you have 1.25" rotors now,... EVERYTHING will have to be switched to work with the Light Duty spindles.

Thanks for the response, I will find the correct spindle and keep it simple.

Re: you want to change your 5X5 bolt pattern on 73-87 disc to 5X4.75
i just had a machine shop re-drill my rotors and shave down the outer part of the hub a little bit, cost me 20 bucks to switch to 5x4.75 in the rear i swapped the axle for a 80's camaro. super easy.

Re: you want to change your 5X5 bolt pattern on 73-87 disc to 5X4.75
[QUOTE=502tripower;3031272]Now we all know that the 73-87 front crossmember and suspension components can be swapped into the 60-72 trucks. The 73-80 Chevrolet C10 pickups used a 1.28 rotor. Then in 81-86 GM switched to a 1" rotor. I did a bit more digging and found that the calipers are different for the 1" rotor but use a common bolt pattern with 73-80 so, it looks as if the 91 Camaro rotor will work on the 73-86 spindles if the 81-86 calipers are used as well. Also the flexible brake line will need to be changed if you have the 73-80 caliper as one of the calipers uses American standard thread and the other uses a metric thread. The parts house could not tell me which one used what thread but that they were different. I will figure that out when I purchase the parts. I have not done this yet but it does look like it will work. fones1966 a member here PMed me telling me about this possibility and I want to thank him for that. I just thought I would post this information in case there were others that could use it. Olympic Brake here in Washington is who provided this information. One note I want to point out is the specs that I have all show the same bearings on all three rotors. I was told by fones1966 that the 73-80 1.28 rotor used a A-5 inner bearing so that bearing would have to be replaced when switching to the Camaro rotor but, what I found was the 73-80 heavy duty 1.28 rotor used the A-5 inner bearing and the 81-87 light duty rotor used the A-6 as shown in the specs I have provided. I hope this information is helpful. Here are the specs on both the truck and Camaro rotors:
73-80 Truck rotor specs are: Height 4.88 Diameter 11.85 Min. Thickness 1.220 Hub 3.06 Outer bearing A-3 Inner bearing A-5 Seal Part # 8871 Bolt Circle 5X5 81-86 Truck rotor specs are: Height 4.63 Diameter 11.86 Min. Thickness .96 Hub 3.20 Outer bearing A-3 Inner bearing A-6 Seal Part # 8871 Bolt Circle 5X5 91 Camaro 1LE Performance Package rotor specs are: Height 4.65 Diameter 11.85 Min. Thickness .97 Hub 2.78 Outer bearing A-3 Inner bearing A-6 Seal Part # 8871 ok....I know this post is old and I'm gonna ask for info outside of this forum but any possibility of swap knowledge or ideas could help....I want to convert my 1996 tahoe 2wd to 4.75 bolt pattern up front and run a 96 corvette IRS in rear....looked at camaro rotors no good and several more....any imput here would be welcome...Thanks, cliff Last edited by vettemad; 10-28-2015 at 08:44 PM. Belltech 3200 drop spindle.
These work with all 73-87 balljoints and tie rods, but you have to use the 1" width rotor. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/b...0/applications

Can you provide a part number for them. I have a 66 chevelle and my current rotors make the front wheels sit to close to the fender lip, these low profile rotors look like they could solve my problem. will they work with the stock calipers? thanks |
