Re: Mark's 66 Burb Build

My fellow dudes...........thank you for the thumbs up. Here is a better shot. I am really happy about this color and excited to get this burb together!! The black and the silver has the perfect amount of sheen and is exactly what i wanted. Spraying the flat clear and mixing it with gloss clear can be tricky and luck was with us.

Bumpers and door handles get painted silver. We thought about black bumpers but our first guess is silver so we will try it.

What do you guys think about a red stripe where the black meets the silver?? I was thinking 1/4 inch???

I think that you should definitely go for the red stripe where the black meets grey....And a red stripe on the wheel lip also....Looooks killer so far!
Awesome work!

Re: Mark's 66 Burb Build

I dunno, looks pretty clean to me "as is"....if you're putting the fender emblem back on, it will have a hint of red...and maybe some red old school pinstriping on the hood (& maybe rear?)...not saying a stripe to separate colors wouldn't look good...the little details like this drive me insane, lol....guess it's just trial & error...that's the fun

I'm with BLACK bumpers--I feel like the silver will create a 90's monochromatic look with the body/bumpers matching...

we were painting silver today so we went ahead and shot the bumpers silver. you may be right but it is so easy to paint them black if the silver doesnt work.

Thanks dudes!!! great comments and recommendations. We are back on the Burb for the next few days and I will keep you all posted with photos and get your feedback. We did paint the bumpers silver because we were painting some other parts silver.

On the way home I stopped by an auto parts store to pick up some red 1/4 inch pinstriping. I also through a roll of black on the counter.........both were 40' rolls. Damn, $35 for two rolls!!! I guess its been a while for me buying tape............last time I picked some up I thought it was $5 for a roll.

Well, It should pretty-much apply itself for that price... Or adhere better than anything you have purchased in the past!.... Good luck with that!

Re: Mark's 66 Burb Build

Hope you dont mind, but Modges comment fired off the right side of my brain, and I had to agree so much, I did this little gig for you in paint...

I think his idea has some merit !!

I added the wheels as my idea though, so dont blame him for that
I used the maroon red in Paint so it came out very subtle, so much so that I used a thinner line on the front wheels and you can barely see it.
awesome effect IMO to tie in the red of your seat, which I said to the wife was striking, like blood in snow...

Re: Mark's 66 Burb Build

A single red pin stripe at the juncture of the silver/black at the body line with a single red pinstripe along the flange on the rims is all it needs... IMO

Re: Mark's 66 Burb Build

Hey McMurphy!
Looks Kinda cool.
But, not exactly what I was thinkin.
I was thinkin really subtle on the rims, just something to accentuate the diameter of the wheels. And when mark suggested 1/4" tape to separate the black & grey, I thought that that may be too wide of a stripe also.
Sometimes it is not always good to see all of the detail from a distance.
And this is "truly MY opinion".

I am feeling what you guys are laying down. The red stripe goes on tomorrow (Sunday) and going to try to put 1 single red stripe around the outside of the wheels to get an idea.

Re: Mark's 66 Burb Build

It was another great day in the garage. I have posted some misc pictures of the garage during the day. We started with installing lights, grill, weatherstriping, and playing around with some badges.

In one of the photos we are holding up the red pin striping to following some of the recommendations made by you guys. It goes on tomorrow.

The front bumper is temporarily bolted in place. I think the silver will blend in more with the truck than if they were black. The front end of the truck is probably my least favorite view if I had to pick one and would like to keep it as uniform as possible.

I had some really nice billet aluminum side mirrors that have been laying around for a few years. I had planned on putting them on a rat rod but I paid pretty go dough for them so I keep them in the box. We were going to immediately paint them black but we held off. One they are nice billet aluminum pieces and I wanted to paint them as a last resort choosing to install them and see how they look. What do you guys think about leaving the mirrors as they are. We are going with all black trim but I thought it might be cool to have something shiny.

While I was pulling things out of boxes I found some really cool SS emblems I purchased years ago. We painted them satin black and stuck them on the side. I think they look pretty cool because they have a modern design to them.

I could not agree more!
IMO art is truely at its best when it looks as good from a distance as it does up close. Even more so when you get up close and see things you could not from the distance...that is good art!
