Re: 1969 C10 SWB - Big Block project

Chad's truck has been running a little warmer than we like, so we worked today installing high-output dual electric fans with shroud from DeRale Performance.

We purchased the DeRale 16927 Kit from Summit and the construction quality is really nice. The dual 13" fans flow a combined 4,000 CFM which should be plenty for the Big Block. This kit with shroud measures 18" H x 26" W and is 3.550" thick which fits the aluminum radiator perfectly. The fans feature 7 blades with maximum 1,680 fan RPM. Amp Draw is 49.60 amps for both fans.
Dual relay harnesses are included as well as an extra wire for air conditioning over ride.

We had to make a few minor modifications in order to use the factory 4-core radiator hold downs, but I think it turned out pretty nice. Next step is to wire in the relays, fill with fresh antifreeze, a bottle of Redline Water Wetter and pressurize the system. That will have to wait until Monday... it's two hot in the garage for us today.

Re: 1969 C10 SWB - Big Block project

I do believe the engine compartment is finished! We have the new dual fans connected so that they power up either by the Painless Temp Sensor, when the A/C is turned on or manually with a toggle in the console (as a back up).

We removed the master cylinder and adjusted the brake booster rod to eliminate some residual line pressure. After talking with a friend of ours, we removed the 5.5 psi fuel pressure regulator completely. Our blueprinted Holley 3310 needed about 7 psi at idle so the regulator was hindering performance a little.

The A/C is charged and ready for the Summer heat. We love the Vintage Sure Fit system so far and will keep you updated on how well it works.

We also discovered that the Lokar neutral safety switch was defective on the floor shift. I called Lokar and they shipped out a new one yesterday at no charge. Great customer service and super nice car guys at Lokar.

Thanks, we didn't want the AC hoses to cross the front of the engine so we went with brackets from Alan Groves. We also wanted to keep the long water pump which made it difficult to find quality custom brackets for the AC compressor and Alternator.

The AC brackets are Alan Groves part number 122R and the Alternator brackets are part number 222L. They are specific to a Big Block Chevy with LONG water pump, AC compressor on PASSENGER SIDE and Alternator on DRIVER SIDE.

If you don't mind the AC hoses across the front of the engine and have a short water pump Big Block, you have a multitude of choices.

I hope this helps.

Re: 1969 C10 SWB - Big Block project

The truck is listed on eBay if you guys want to follow along.

https://m.ebay.com/itm/1968-Chevrole...anner=1&_rdt=1

For anyone looking at the truck on eBay if you have questions you're welcome to call me. My cell phone number is 423-650-0943

I don't really want to sell outside of eBay until the auction ends. I am open to offers. The truck is for sale, and will sell,.. It just needs a new owner. I'll help any way I can.

Thanks - Chad

Re: 1969 C10 SWB - Big Block project

She's gone fellas. She is in her new home in NC. It has been an incredible build! Thanks for following along. This turned out to be a really nice truck. It wasn't perfect, but none of them are really. I'd do it all over again if I could.

I love my Pop. I couldn't have asked for a better friend and mentor through these old hot rods. Just another one for the priceless memories archives.

.. until next time.
