Re: What did you do to your Blazer/Jimmy today?

If somebody is ever considering painting the firewall black on their trucks...don't do it. Spent the past few days lightly wet sanding off the black rubberized paint off the upper firewall of my 71 4x4 Blazer project.

I was able to get back to the original firewall crayon markings for 518 - which is the stock 71 Medium Green paint code - so I thought that was a win for the time invested. It was on both the driver and passenger side of the upper firewall.

A few before, during and after shots...

Pat, what are you running for lift and tire size / type? Your truck has a great stance. Thanks.

I took the original springs in for re-arching and asked for 2-2.5" I think it's a bit more than that though.

Also, I just put 2" blocks in the rear.

The tires are 33"x12.5"x15". They are the new BFG KO3's on 15" x 8" rallys. I picked up a set of 15" x 8" steel wheels and have sandblasted and painted them white. Now, I'm not sure if I want to swap them out or not.

I'm afraid it's going to squat down a bit when I put the top back on.

I think I'll put in a couple of overload air bags so I can bring it up a bit if I have too.

Thanks for the kind comments!

Pat

Re: What did you do to your Blazer/Jimmy today?

Thanks Pat. Exactly the look I am going for. The truck I bought has 35" Mud Terrains with what I believe to be a 4" lift. Too tall for my taste. Appreciate the info.

Great pic! On the Jeepster page that I am on they do a calendar and have folks submit pics for it; this would be great in a Blazer calendar!

Re: What did you do to your Blazer/Jimmy today?

Finally got my master cylinder installed. I had used a 2003 unit because it had a 1 1/4" bore, but went to the Wilwood with a 1 1/8" bore for better pedal feel and stopping. I got lucky and was able to get it on without bleeding, but I may do it anyway just to make sure there's no small air bubbles.

Re: What did you do to your Blazer/Jimmy today?

flushed the radiator, remounted and wired the fans. Last time I did that was 20 years ago, so I figure I'm good for another 20.

I love Parker. Have you ever visited the desert bar out in the desert? It's a cool place.

Have been going there starting in the 60's with my parents. Have not been to the desert bar because it closes for the summer, to hot.

Installed an old school steering wheel cover. It’s tough to find these for a 17” wheel.
