Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

well I still have time. I just got my 65. So all the possibility research and questions are flying right now.

Anyone know if they sell drop spindles for the 65 so tou keep the six lug and drum brakes?

Yea , you can use newer drop spindles, say 73-87. And there are aftermarket 6 lug rotors that will slide right on.

1. What size bags did you use on your truck? 2600 up front and 2500 rear?
i used slam specialties ss7 all the way around.. it rides like a cloud!!!
2. The drop spindles are for/from what year model?
i got mine from a buddy. they came off of a 67-72 c10. cant remember the brand

3. Did you use original upper and lower control arms?
If you did. Do you have to swap ball joints? To which ones?
yes i used my stock control arms that came with my truck
i really cant remember for sure if you have to change the balljoints because there is a difference but i did anyway..i think the only thing that is different on the spindles i bought some for the 67-72 chevy truck. make sure you get moog balljoints if you buy some cause they pivot more than the cheapos so they wont bind up on a bagged truck

4. What is the lower control arms pocket depth?
at the wide end of the control arm it is 3" deep and the narrow end it is 2" deep. ive seen other people just go 3" the hole way but it seems like the bag sits flatter the way i did it

5. What is your rearend from?
stock rear end

6. Did you fab the step notch or buy one?
made my own.. its a little smaller than most of the ones you buy

7. Are the trailing arms longer on long bed then short bed trailing arms?
im not completely sure but i think the arms are the same for both

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

o sweet man its always cool to see another artist do you have a website or anything? what shop do you work at?

well sorry not many pics but a lot of work has been done lately..

here is a short list of other mods i did to make the engine fit how i wanted it to without the oil pan hitting the ground when layed out.

installed 8" deep oil pan (had a 9" pan)
spaced the engine mounts up 1/2" and slotted the holes a little more to move the engine back a 1/2" also (needed more room for a flex fan)
the crosslink for my steering was hitting the oil pan so i had to mod it to make it fit (picture below)
modified the tranny crossmember for more room for the exhaust and also made it two peices cause it was near impossible to get it in and out without removing the exhaust.

here are a few pics
tranny crossmember mod. since i made it thinner i welded some flat stock on the front and back to help beef it up. It is super easy to install now

everything is hooked up and ready to go except for the radiator. I had to move the mount and little bit further forward to clear the new fan..
btw i went with the flex fan because at idle it would start to heat up with that electric fan. i plan on running both fans just in case. i also added a different tranny cooler instead of trying to use the radiator to cool the engine and tranny so it should be good to go now

new tranny cooler. not real sure if i need a fan on this??? i was thinking of making a little scoop that will direct air toward it while going down the road. anyone have experience with one of these?

steering u joint welded in place. installed new bearings in the column and shortened the shaft an inch shorter than stock so i could adjust the column more forward to get the steering wheel further away from me

here is the steering crosslink after i modded it.. i welded it back together then went overkill by adding gussets and boxing it in all the way around where it was welded together cause i dont wanna take any chances

all i really have left now is finish the wheel tubs. mod my hood hinges some more and install the front clip and radiator

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

I'm digging the updates, truck is looking good!! tattoos look bada$$, I don't have any experience with the trans cooler, but I just got my 18" dual pass one in the other day, haven't installed it yet either! I shortened my steering column 3in. also haven't finished that yet, I got a list of things I got to get done since I have a garage now

Re: intro + 66 black bagged long fleet

thanx guys!!!!! here are the pics of the wheeltubs i promised.. plus a few bonus detail shots

[IMG]https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3686/13673115413_cc1dae24c4_c.jpg
[/IMG]

welded both sides

had to do some rust repair

filled in the cutout about 1/2" to make it less noticeable that i lowered the bumper

and here is how they turned out

dont worry ive got a cool idea on how to get my centercap mounted up since it wont fit right now.. that is coming soon

i used stainless this time for the trim peice so i can polish it up

had to trim the hinges even more. i welded on some 1/8th thick x 1/2 wide flat stock to beef it up a little bit.
also drilled some holes to make it match the latch plate.

ok here are all the bonus shots! enjoy

[IMGhttps://farm4.staticflickr.com/3797/13673129033_3b4bed22f5_c.jpg[/IMG]

thats all for now.. dont worry i still have plenty of ideas coming soon
