Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

Definitely going to consider the one piece drive shaft. Dad showed me the carrier bearing but I can't remember what it looked like.

Any ideas on my exhaust? I'm not sure if you can tell by the pictures but it runs right out behind the cab, almost directly over the top of where the trailing arm connects. Maybe 3 or so inches wide of this point..

What I'm thinking is to run a 90 straight down, then straight over and put the mufflers outside the frame rails? I'm looking at the round ones from Magnaflow. There's a little room under the bed sides there, then out and turned down in front of the rear tires. Maybe a Cuda style or 94-95 Z28 style tip? Just a flat / rectangle style, almost a Nascar look? I just want it to blend into the side of the truck, low and sleek. Not hanging down or out past the wheel any at all.

Other ideas / pictures? I'm not sure I want to cut my cross member (yet anyway..)

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

Looking at my pictures again .. What if I just offset that bend from the lower part under the cross member ? Cut it there, put a 2.25 slip on it so that would turn about 30deg OUT. That would bring it outside the frame rail, up tight and tucked. The muffler would sit in that little void area at the front part of the bed, then over and out (turned out in front of the tire) Would that blow crap all over my wheels? When I stuck my foot in my tired 255hp 3OTT ??

Do you have holes in the trailing arm crossmember for your exhaust?

No, just stock. With a 6" or so drop, do I really need to run it that tight? (I don't know, I'm asking .. )

Yeah, no you don't "have to", but it does look much better...makes it much easier to run the exhaust without having nearly the issues associated with the trailing arms...and you can keep your mufflers inbetween the frame rails.

I'm going to do it after I put the gas tank in the frame (out back) and then fab up the exhaust (running through the trailing arm crossmember) over the rearend as tight to the bed as I can and try to run it out just behind the bumper. I'll cross under the frame just after the rearend (where the frame is a bit higher in the body) so I can exit the exhaust around the new gas tank placement...In theory

Yesssss!!! NOOOOO!! haha You can see what I did to mine in my build thread. Right now it stops just through the trailing arm crossmember but I think I am going to turn it up and come over the frame between it and the bed and then 45 down and turn out in front of the wheel!

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

Thanks guys for the compliments. I ordered some round Magnaflows and exhaust slip joints / bends last night so we can re-route them enough to get to the muffler shop. I'm going to try and stay inside the frame rails, just run two rounds instead of the regular shape.

Dad had some Flowmaster copies put on it not too long ago. They are like new. If you know of anyone who might be able to use them, I'll have some up for sale soon. No kidding, they may have 500 miles on them (if that) and sound a lot like Flows .. maybe 44's ? Not real loud but sound really good. Let me know .. I'll post them in the For Sale as soon as we get them off.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

.. Yep. Here are a few pictures. The sway bar is on, everything for the most part (except the emergency brake cable is too short) on the brakes, axle, etc is all set. I'm waiting on a little fun money to build back up then I'll get my track bar and lower shock bar from Nate.

We have the exhaust temporarily ran to the side just so we can get it to the muffler shop. I will be changing it over to 5"x22" Magnaflow round ones. (inboard, then over the axle as best we can.

To finish up the back:

Driveshaft - 62 3/8 we measured for it yesterday (trans tail shaft seal to pinion yolk centerline) .. the drop shortened the drive shaft about 5/8" .. Wow. Plus the fact we're going with a 1 piece now.. I guess that had a lot to do with it.

Shocks - cant measure until I get the shock bar
Shock bar
Track bar
Brackets, etc.
Finish up the Em Brake cable

then on to the front

Once everything is mounted up and we get the bed back on I might want to add more block too. Maybe a 2" ? We'll see. It has a 1" in it now. I would like to keep my U bolt legth till we get it back on the ground, the right wheels on it, the bed back on .. just so I can sit it perfect and cut the bolts off then.

Anyway .. here she is. The wheels on it are the ones for my stepper (255/45) and look a bit narrow for a fleetside. Don't worry .. they're comin ..

Great attention to detail!

Do you still have the 5-lug rally wheels off your stepside?
Maybe you can run those until you get the new front wheels.
Or will they work with the big brakes?

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

I thought maybe through the winter I would put the grey ones on the front of the gmc and yeah.. probably slip the rallys back on the front of the stepside.

I think my pop is going to take over finishing the stepside then well probably sell it. All it needs is interior and finish paint.. then just put together.

Once I get the front Heritage the grey ones go back to the stepper. Were trying to finish both for the HRPT in June 2013

Looks "okay"... :lmao: actually it's Perfect!

What calipers does that rear kit use? My Parking brake cables were to short too and I'm going to get a pair from a supplier here in B'ham. We may need the same ones?

Sup Ed! ?

Dad and I were thinking maybe we replace the intermediate cable and go with the ones McGaughys sent. Its odd your cables were too short too. You have the same kit I do (I think)

Im considering the long haul in the tour. Do you want to start in Bham and meet up with Jeff and those guys? You can run with us if you want..
