Costs so far:

both 5" gauges and the four smaller gauges set me back around $850. Some of my gauges are electric, which cost more (example: elec oil gauge is $200). if you went analog, you'd probalby pay less.

7-gauge console was bought from a board member at a small fee some time ago. 3-gauge bezel was stock in my truck.

i made very little progress after taking the pic above. I managed to get the logistics of it all down and merged the two panels (sort of), but then I got sidetracked with work: I just bought my roommate's share of our house, so I had to help him move all of his crap out. Between that, helping my woman landscape the yard (read: digging a dozen holes) and pressure washing/sanding my used inner fender, I got little to no more work done on the cluster.

Jegs has the 5" gauges on backorder till tomorrow at the earliest, and out of town this weekend. I expect I won't be able to update this post for another week or two.

6 months and 5 days later, I just got notification from Jegs that Autometer is FINALLY making the 5" gauges I ordered, and they're on the way out to me.

I just won a 3 3/8 guage (fuel pressure guage) Pro Comp. Didn't know they made it. I have a 3 3/8 oil temp also.

They don't make it anymore. After calling them about it several times, I have had more than one of their people tell me it will never be manufactured again. That's a rare part, and I know of two of them that have sold at four times more than the original cost here at the forum.

I know that they do not make any of these 3 3/8 anymore and havent for some time. I just didnt know they made all the ones that they did. I have seen fuel, water temp, oil press, fuel press, and now oil temp, all 3 3/8.

has anyone used these gauge sets on ebay for $275.00 first pic and $169.00 for second pic with six gauges. I think I will try them to see how they work. They also have the
3 3/8 tach.

they always refer to them as the "monster gauges" when i've called. they said the only monster gauge they make any more is the monster tach.

i like autometer for a simple reason: they refuse to go overseas. they are based in the USA, building gauges from parts made in the USA, and they openly express that they absolutely will not succumb like other domestic companies have - they will continue to innovate and streamline their business at a low enough cost to be competitive while keeping money here in the USA.

you just don't find that kind of quality and concern in big business today. as long as they keep it up, i will never buy another gauge brand in my life.

I agree with you because I used autometers in both of my fastback mustangs but I am building this truck as a daily driver on a budget. if the truck takes a different direction in the future I will go back to some sport comps and just bite bullet for another plurge... I was posting the other gauges as a alternative that I am trying. I see these Dolphin gauges in a lot of magazines, maybe I will research the origin...

By the way - these gauges finally came in at the beginning of the year. Took almost 7 months for Autometer to get off their duffs and start making em again.

A few weeks ago, just for S&G, I started playing around with what they would look like mocked up. You don't get to see the reverse-glow in these pictures, but I figured some of you would probably liked to see the mocked up gauges in a 3-hole and 7-hole cluster, anyway.

Note the one picture from the side - the large gauges don't fit down in the bezel, whereas the small gauges fit perfectly inside the smaller holes.
Personally, in retrospect, I actually think the 3-hole setup looks better, so I'm actively considering pursuing this route instead of going 7-hole. Should be easy enough to fab up something to go under the dash...

Shifty- If you mount them from behind, they will not stick out like that. Some of the bezel will still show though...

These are a little different than what gauges you guys are using but i like it. Just some Auto lites. I think the shift light in the choke hole idea was pretty cool but im gonna change it to say DONT CHOKE.

I mounted my speedo and tach from behind, the smaller gauges I mounted through the front of the cluster and they sat at about the same level as the large gauges from behind... I think it looks cleaner but just my opnion....

For me . . .... If the smaller lower gauges are used, install the monsters from behind. If the 2 5/8 lowers are used, mount the monsters through the front.

They look 'good' regardless, but to me this is what 'looks' most consistent.

I found it a little strange/awkward looking mounting the larger gauges from behind. It's been a few weeks - I'll revisit again. I keep flip-flopping on whether I want to go 3-hole or 7-hole dash. I'm going to look at it when I get home tonight. If anything cool comes out of it, I'll post pics.
