Re: 63 Fleetside Chevy C10 build

Another simple task, another big problem. Went to take off the wheel today to get the tire fixed...ended up stripping one of the bolts and there are still two others that are rusted solid on there.

Three hours of PB blaster and an impact wrench would not do anything to them.

Sounds like you need to find someone with a torch. Heat the nut until it's cherry red and the nut will come off. I don't think a propane torch will do it but if it's all you have you could try it. Good luck

sadly a torch is not one of the tools i own...I may just drill them out and replace them at a later date......not my ideal solution, but a solution....

maybe I can get my hands on a propane torch.....

Re: 63 Fleetside Chevy C10 build

Does your power brakes look like mine?
I've been told they can be mounted anywhere so even though mounted differently they could be the same. I just got out of the pool or I would go take a better pic. I will in a few...

Keep at it! You are figuring things out and it's coming along. You are totally the kind of person I like to come over and help because you have the right attitude but you are a little far away for that.

That looks like dealer installed A/C to me. That is one of the few options mine doesn't have unfortunately.

Tommy's is a different year and its a gmc. Gmc, although looked almost the same as the chevy, had their differences.

Re: 63 Fleetside Chevy C10 build

Ahh, I never noticed that it was a GMC...that probably explains it. I'm sure it is the same system.

I have a couple of days off here in the next few weeks before I go on vacation. I hope to get the truck reassembled with the exception of the pieces that I need to order in that time....

Then I will work on the little things...like bolting the seat back in place....fixing that gas tank and such.

then with a little luck we might just have something going for an inspection. I really want to start driving this thing on the road.....

need to also have the steering looked at to see why that is so hard to turn......

Re: 63 Fleetside Chevy C10 build

I took a closer look and I think they are the same. It appears you could.mount it anywhere if you made the lines and hoses long enough since it uses the stock master cylinder.

Here is a better pic...

It won't look like this for long. My next project is to clean up that mess....

Re: 63 Fleetside Chevy C10 build

Yup. That does look the same....I'm hoping in the next few weeks to place a rather large order for the bits and pieces I need to make the truck pass inspection. Sadly today was wasted at disassembling the equinox as it had a quick conversation with a large concrete flower pot.

I guess we will see!

The plan is to get the tire off Monday morning and get a new tire on it so I can get to an inspection station so I can get their take on what needs to be done

Here's a picture of the single wire alternator.

Re: 63 Fleetside Chevy C10 build

And here's how I hooked it to the battery. All you have to do is run a straight wire to the battery like shown and all the oem wires you just leave connected until you put a new wiring harness in.

Re: 63 Fleetside Chevy C10 build

Here's a picture of the voltage regulator and all the wiring. All you half to do is leave it like so until you get a new wiring harness, reason being is that you will no longer need to worry about the regulator.

Re: 63 Fleetside Chevy C10 build

I see.... still looking at the alternator situation...I think just the voltage regulator might be bad...but I'll look into that more when I can get this damn tire off....

tmr will be dedicated to fixing the equinox and getting the tire off.....if the tire comes off...i will place an order for more parts for this beast to get it closer to inspection time.. if i have a little extra time, i might run it over to the inspection booth to get an idea on anything i may have overlooked for it to pass inspection.

Re: 63 Fleetside Chevy C10 build

For that stuck on wheel, I'm sure you've already soaked the lugs and center ring with oil, if not do so. Then jack the rear and whack the back of the tire with a bfh, be careful not to hit the rim at least not too hard, rotate the wheel as you're doing it. I've always had good luck with that, you can also hit it from the front, even rotating and kicking it sometimes works. Once you break it loose it can be worked off. Good Luck.

Re: 63 Fleetside Chevy C10 build

What BOXER957 said, and if that don't work....well....I Don't know what the heck you should do! The only thing I can think of is a torch or to cut them out if BPXER957's idea doesn't work. I've been fortunate with my rigs, I soaked them in pb blaster and let them sit for a day, them put the impact gun(air commpressed) and it pulled them off like nothing. Is yours electric or air?

It's electric and I've officially stripped them into round heads so I'm screwed. They have to be cut off.
