CALM DOWN SHIFTY... I'M NOT TRYING TO BE A SMARTASS. I'M JUST TRYING TO COME UP WITH A REALISTIC SOLUTION TO A VERY REAL PROBLEM. JUST BECAUSE YOU CLAIM TO BE AN EXPERT ON THE SUBJECT & POST 30 TIMES A DAY DOESN'T GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO SHOOT DOWN OTHER PEOPLES IDEAS & CALL THEM NAMES & INSINUATE THAT NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT CEPT YOU. I FEEL BAD FOR YOU. IF THIS IS THE WAY YOU GO THRU LIFE YOU MUST BE A TRULY UNHAPPY INDIVIDUAL. JOHN

I hear ya, CPNE. I reread my posts a minute ago and I guess I just empathize with Josh too much, hence why I edited on stepping out. I can't seem to type without bias.

I took JYJ suggestions as a sincere effort to put forth a "plan". Your response to it was a bit "over-passionate" IMO. I think you both have the boards best interests at heart. Funny how having that in common can make you so diametrically opposed. For the record, I really believe JYJ mispelling was a dislexic mistake, however freudian.

I am new to this forum. I found it a year ago when I first purchased my truck and then just didn't come back until last week. I have found the information here EXTREMELY valuable; the company intelligent and pleasant; and the site easily navigated and easy to use.

I am a longtime member of a local car club with a nice site so I know that it takes a ton of work to keep things smooth. People have different personalities and the internet is a faceless entity in which we sometimes hide behind a keyboard and throw disrespect at complete strangers that do not deserve any disrespect.

Kudos to anyone and everyone that keeps this forum up and running (and moving smoothly I might add). Remember this is not a thankless job because from the bottom of my heart I THANK YOU. This is your house, and we are guests. If we get the carpet dirty, or drink too much of your beer KICK US OUT.

Thank You

You're probably right. I guess maybe I just have the last "passionate" [eBay] thread still in my mind where there was some instigation from parties involved in this one. I agreed wholeheartedly with the first couple of posts on this page, but then there was one part in there .. with the caps and punctuation, I just couldn't tell if it was sarcastic or not and I went off on a general rant that wasn't intended to target anyone.

JYJ, I'm no longer allowed to link to definitions, it's demeaning. Just think of it as opposite spokes on a wheel. Diff'rent Spokes for Diff'rent Folks"

Back on topic, I think budbeater's comments speak for the majority of us (myself included)

Try having a nickname with the letters s h i and t in it while chatting regularly on the internet. You'd understand. When someone is posting heatedly at you, calling you a smartass and telling you to check the grammar in your post, it seems logical to view it as not a case of dyslexia. But, I digress, like I said, I'm shutting up and I'll drop it.

How many people would commit to getting a subscription if there were more flexible rate plans - like $15 instead of $25 or something? What kind of added features would you want to go with that (other than the perk of having access to a wealth of information)?

Well, I have been on workers comp for the last month and I have A LOT of money tied up in cars for investments that I can not complete at the time so Josh if you can forgive me until I can get a little more settled to pay you as money is tight. I just offered up my Blazer top for free on the Blazer side, maybe I will change that to 25.00 dollars so I can do my part on here. Keep up the good work, this board has kept me sane at home in the last month. Thanks again.

I'M BACK... I'M LAYING CERAMIC TILE & PAINTING ONE OF MY BATHROOMS, & LET ME SAY THAT I'D RATHER BE BEAT WITH A STICK.
SHIFTY - SORRY ABOUT MISPELLING YOUR NAME. YOU SEEM TO HAVE (OR AT LEAST THINK YOU HAVE) A PROBLEM WITH ME. I DON'T KNOW WHY OR WHAT I EVER DID TO YOU. I DON'T THINK JOSH OR ANYBODY ELSE FOR THAT MATTER NEEDS YOU TO STAND UP FOR OR PROTECT THEM. (UNLESS OF COARSE THEY ASK YOU TO) ( IT COMES OFF AS YOU ARE BROWN NOSING & IS VERY TRANSPARENT & UNATRACTIVE)I WAS BEING VERY SERIOS ABOUT THIS BECOMING A PAY FOR VIEW SITE. IF A MANDATORY $25 FEE WILL PUT AN END TO THE CONSTANT DIRE FINACIAL STRAIGHTS THIS BOARD IS ALWAYS UP AGAINST... I'M ALL FOR IT. HAVE YOU HEARD ANY OTHER IDEAS THAT STAND A CHANCE OF WORKING??? MAYBE A BAKE SALE?? YOU'RE THE SELF PROCLAIMED EXPERT. WHATS YOUR IDEA TO RAISE 1/2 MILLION BUCKS??? WHY SHOULD JOSH HAVE TO RELY ON DONATIONS & VENDOR FEES TO KEEP THIS BOARD AFLOAT & GET NOTHING FOR HIS TIME & TROUBLE???
(QUOTE)How many people would commit to getting a subscription if there were more flexible rate plans - like $15 instead of $25 or something? What kind of added features would you want to go with that (other than the perk of having access to a wealth of information)? (QUOTE)
I GUESS YOUR MISSING THE POINT. I'M NOT PROPOSING ANY KIND OF FLEXIBLE PLAN OR ADDED FEATURES THAT WILL CREAT MORE WORK FOR ANYBODY... JUST A MANDATORY $25 ANNUAL SUBSCIPTION FEE.
FYI I ALWAYS TYPE IN CAPS , & I ALWAYS USE ONE FINGER & I'D BE THE LAST GUY ON EARTH TO COMPLAIN ABOUT ANYONES GRAMMER. I'VE EXPLAINED IT MANY TIMES, & DON'T FEEL THE NEED TO EXPLAIN IT TO EVERY F.N.G. ON THIS BOARD. RANT MODE OFF. JOHN

I wonder what does it cost to keep a place like this going. I don't need a budget break down, just a ball park. i for one never even thought about how much work Josh and mods put in. For that I am sorry, You guys do a great job, and don't get the credit you deserve.

I for one think that JYD might be on to something. There may be 19,500 registered users but I bet no more than 5% have contributed. Thats only $24,375.00. How much is needed to keep this site up and running(with a prudent reserve)

I would be very surprised if the active members are even close to that 19,500. I bet that half the registered names are inactive so I wouldn't be using those numbers to figure out the potential money that could be raised.

Well there are 19,000+ registered members but from what I have seen many of those on the list have never posted or only posted very few times in the past several years. Maybe when there is time some of those excess names that have not posted in the last two or three years are dropped off the rolls. There are an aweful lot of members that have not posted at all in the past 3-4+ years and more than likely never will. It would give a more clear picture of actually how many members there are here. The only thing about a mandatory fee is I think it may put a crimp on new people wanting to come aboard and keep the board from growing as much as it possible could.

You gotta be jokin.. Less than 1% !!! Everyone is at different places financially, and I've been where I couldn't afford $25. But <1%. That's FBS.
Did anyone like my idea about fees? :
$0 to look
$10 to post,buy only
$25 to post, sell, have PMs
That way those who TRULY can't afford to contribute would still have access to free info. The membership would almost certainly go down, but if currently <1% contribute, the additional fees generated should more than pay for the site.
Al
*edit* I have ebay expirience and would be willing to donate time in the listing, selling, shipping of items.
And I'd like to buy some cookies Liz !LOL

This is a bad idea. I've seen a couple people resurface lately that haven't been around for 2 or 3 years. The guy who takes pictures of snakes is one. I saw two others recently also in the general forum and at least one I saw in the past seven days in the 67-72 forum that sold his truck a little over a year ago and just bought a new one in the past week and came back again.

"Banning" is a serious offense. In real life, that would be like saying ... "If you don't fish in this wonderful lake for more than a year, you will be barred from ever coming back again." I can understand requiring people to "pay to park", but ... that's when was the last time you ever saw people eager to buy something they couldn't try first?

If you want to weed out the members, do an SQL query on members. Find * members that registered more than 4 months ago and have less than 5 posts. Nuke them. That will cut out the people who are seriously not interested in doing much of anything here. Some people just sign up to lurk or, as previously stated, sell a truck or something. When you start killing members that just haven't been back in a while - well, what happens to members from the gulf who won't have their home or lives back to normal for another 12 months? You gonna kill their accounts also?

believe it or not there are several hundred "active members" with below ten posts. There are members who lurk daily that have not posted in a year or more (ya'll scare em? ) I know there are ALOT of mia members and non active accounts but there are alot of active people who seem to not be.

I think its really cool of all ya'll to shout out ideas on how to help support the site. I know he is open to all suggestions. Just remember he did not even want to charge for the parts areas.. there were several factors leading to that. I would be seriously taken back if the site ever turned into a pay site.. don't see that happening. This place is not about making money to him, its about sharing knowledge and continuing to support the hobby. The fact that the site was losing this with the nit picking and arguing bad posts etc had alot more to do with this thread even being then money itself. There have been many times Josh has paid the server etc out of pocket, if it was about money it would had closed then.

I know I'm just rambling away but its in ref to a few different posts. Ya'll rock and friends, trucks and knowledge is what its all about. Think of all the younger members we have ( I mean 12, 13 yrs old etc) Its awesome that they can come here and learn from those who have owned and worked on these trucks for years and years.. a safe place for them to be, without being bashed for asking a question..

ok I have nothing more to add at this time so carry on with your chattering.

and guys.. thank you all for all your support within these threads.. after being yelled at in PM email etc lately, ya'll made a few of us realize again how much this site and its members rock.
