Everyone mentions the patina and said I should drive it as is. I know of three different colors that were painted on with a brush. Not to mention the factory paint and another spry on repainta before the brush on paint jobs. Only years and years can produce a patina like this.

The S10 seat worked out great with the shifter location. The rear end is a 10 bolt factory posi out of a 70 Camaro with a 373 gear. Should work well with the six speed.

Re: New guy with 52 AD project.

Did you decide on steering column and linkage? Are you running a throttle by wire or cable? Have you fired your motor yet? I'm going with 5.3 too.

I will be running the original steering column. I cut the steering tube and shaft just past the firewall. My brother will machine a bearing out of phenolic to fit the steering tube ID and steering shaft OD. This bearing will fit where I made the cut. I will use steering joints and a stabilizer bearing to connect to the power rack.

My throttle body is cable actuated, so I am using the original cable from a 2500HD.

Re: New guy with 52 AD project.

Making slow progress on the '52. I finished the Wilwood clutch and brake pedal assemblies. I also installed the late model S10 throttle pedal. I fabed a support plate to the firewall for the master cylinders and pedals (not shown in pics). I removed the cab from the frame, sand blasted and wire brushed the frame and ready for POR15. I hope to have the '70 truck arm crossmember along with the NASCAR trailing arms this weekend. More pics. to follow.

Re: New guy with 52 AD project.

looking good, I definitely thought about using an aftermarket clutch on my next truck. How much was that set up you got for the clutch, actually for the brake too? Does it flex the firewall? I know my set up did with s-10 brake pedal and c-10 clutch assembly, I had to reinforce it a bit. Looks like it is coming along.

I know it seems like you might have to modify that header a bit. By the looks of the pic the steering will be a tight squeeze, you gonna be alright there?

I purchased the Wilwood pedal and master cylinders off of e-bay. I got a very good deal on the pedal assemblies because no one bid on them. I gave $60.00 for the clutch pedal and master cylinder and $80 for the brake masters and pedal. Normally they run around $300 for the complete set. I did make mounting plates for the pedal assemblies (not shown) so the stress would not be on the firewall.

As for the steering shaft. That is a photo of the mock up. The steering shaft and housing will be cut off just past the firewall and a coupling welded on the shaft. I am running a power rack so clearance will not be an issue. I am using a steering joint and support bearing.

Re: New guy with 52 AD project.

All of the holes in the frame have been welded, '70 trailing arm cross member in place, rear axle housing is square and the trailing arms are in place.

I still need to box the frame, install the fuel tank, run fuel lines, route the exhaust and hopeful fire the engine in a few weeks.

Re: New guy with 52 AD project.

Someone in the past mentioned NASCAR truck trailing arms. The trailing arms I purchased are new NASCAR arm. They are shown in the above pics. If anyone needs info. on the NASCAR arms let me know.

Neither, I will be running coil overs. I thought about bags (Shockwaves) but I decided to go with coil overs in the front and rear. I may do a little auto cross and open road racing, so the trailing arms and coil overs will handle good.

Re: New guy with 52 AD project.

Well I'm back to working on the 52 project. It has been a few months, so I thought I would update my thread and post a few progress photos.

I managed to cut the plates used to box in the frame. I now have the frame boxed. I brushed on some POR15 but still need to finish up the trailing arm cross member and the rear frame area where the fuel tank will mount. I hope to have the frame completed this weekend. Next will be mounting the fuel tank and running the lines forward to the engine area.

Re: New guy with 52 AD project.

Looking good! FYI you might have to massage the trailing arm crossmember a little so it doesn't hit the bottom of the cab. A few minutes with a grinder and a sledge did it for me.

I was wondering about that. Any pics or measurements you can forward me before I put the cab on. I would like to go ahead and make the modification now before I paint. I have several BFH's.

No, that is near impossible but would be nice! I have a long way to go. Only working on it during the weekends. I don't have much time thru the week. The plan is to get the cab finished, back on the frame and I can start driving it while finishing the body panels.

It would be cool to see it out by summer. I think you will like that champion radiator. I like mine, but I used a 55' belair repro they make. Any thoughts on rims or tires?
