Re: Low buck 52 / 53 farm truck

hmm with a 235/75/15 rear and a 4.10 axle you should only be turning about 2100 rpm in 4th, shouldnt sound like blowing up.

is your speedo right? do you have a phone with a gps? I had a truck with 31" rear tires so the speedo was way wrong, I used a dashboard app to show true speed, works better on straights than curves.

The Speedo needle is jumping around like kid high on sugar...

We will be trying the GPS thing when I can get the life wife to ride along with her fancy smart phone...I have a very very basic phone that I can talk and text on...that is it...

I kinda knew going into this that it was an old truck and I tried not to expect much but I did...

It is all good...it is a 63 year old truck...it was never designed to run over 45 mph....

I may try and find a Chevy Colorado rear end with 3.42's in it and also an early S10 5 speed....maybe then we can run along around 55-60 mph or so...hard to say...it still will wander around the road like a drunken sailor...

Gotta re-think Howard Knapp...

Re: No so Low buck 52 / 53 farm truck

Bigger taller tires.....wheels that fit too...

Found a pair of wheels express 6 bolt wheels with a center hole to fit the current truck rear end that is in the truck...

this is how it looks now....

I went from 28" tall tires to 31" tall rear tires....took it out for run...top speed is now at 52 mph....it ran ok until I took a tight left turn....the disc brakes locked up on....I drove it home at about 35 mph...

Just got another box from Jim Carter truck parts....new sun visors...brake and clutch brake pedal pads...oh yeah some door seal rubber for it too...

If the truck makes it...I will be trying to drive it over to a guys house I work with and he is going to try to trouble shoot the gas gauge...everything is new now front to back...now the new gas gauge wont move at all....

Re: Not so Low buck 52 / 53 farm truck

Took "Howard Knapp" the truck to a guys house that I work with...he is going to be trying to trouble shoot the gas gauge....I ordered another gas gauge from Classic trucks....another $80.00.....this will be the second gauge and the second sending unit and still no working fuel gauge...

My wife says after we drove it 13 miles over the guys garage...she is like..."you could have gone faster"....and I answered...."nope that is all it had..."...seems to like to run around 45 mph....over that and stuff starts getting weird with it...

Live and learn we are here...

Still a cool truck. Drive faster, drive slower. Really the ride is what it is all about. Enjoy.

Howard Knapp went to his new home...a 78 year old man from Rexford NY bought it to add to his collection....I hope he has fun with it...
