I have heard from other people that this is an area that can be welded easily since there is no pressure in this area. But no new news from the builder. I called twice Saturday with no answer, but they are not open to the public on weekends so it's a hit or miss. I am calling him today but we have bad weather so I don't see anything happenin.

If things don't work out, I bet drilling out the end of the crack to prevent spreading (always recommended) and a braze job and you'd be good to go! Wonder where the end of the crack is under the timing cover and how the plug would work short of pigg puddy or similar...

Wish I had more knowledge on the plug he talked about. Can't even take anything off of the engine till he gets the chance to look at it. Stalemate. I agree with ya, drill it, weld it, drive it.

For anyone interested in this "plug" here is a website that explains the process and it may be an option for some of us.

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window

Well he came by yesterday evening, I wasn't there but did talk to him this morning. A new block is the only answer so he is going to be lookin for a 327 1966 or older like what I have. Now we gotta see how long it's gonna take him. Started tearing my engine down today and got a little done.

That's a bummer. I know I live a few hours from ya, but I have a friend that owns a machine shop so I will put out the word if you can't find what your looking for. There's lots of car guy's up here and I'm sure he could find one of the year you want.

Thanks butternut. I am going to see how long he "looks" for the 327. If it is taking longer than expected then I will be in the market for one. I'm keepin you in mind on this and will PM ya when/if that time comes. Hope he gets off his butt and puts forth some effort. My friends dad has a 350 long that he will sell to me for $100, but that would be a last resort.

I appreciate the jealousy!! It will get done one day, it's all up to the engine builder now and I'm just along for the ride.

Let's see what the builder does. If he starts sittin on his laurels and wastin time finding a block I would be interested. The oil tube in the front is just the type of manifold I have (old school) so it would probably work. Keepin my fingers crossed that an old one pops up. We are heading to San Antonio in the morning and should be gettin back Saturday evening, but would like to catch up with ya. May get up to your neck of the woods one weekend soon to see your new stuff and your project!

HAHAHHA!! I'll do my best not to scratch YOUR truck! I really appreciate the offer on the block, too bad it's a little far. Going to finish pulling the engine tomorrow or Tuesday, then we'll see how fast I get another.

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window

Have not got the engine all the way out because I do not have an engine waiting for the transplant. The engine builder told me yesterday that he has located (2) 327's and was going to look at them both then decide which one was best. So maybe he is actually trying! I'll have the engine out this weekend with some pics.

Slick... I know this is a little off subject of the current conversation but I wanted to ask you about the plastic fuel cel you got from summit. How do you like it? What made you go with a plastic cel instead of steel or aluminmunmunmun?

I like it and went with it for several reasons. It is never going to rust for one, and it has a much cleaner look than a Blazer tank. There are a couple of things I would have done differently lookin back, but I am still happy with the outcome. One thing that could have made things a bit easier for the fuel filler neck tube would have been to cut a new hole on the driver back corner of the tank so the filler neck would be shorter, and easier to route (I cut one crossmember on the bed bottom). The original cap could stay in place and use another cap for the new hole. May cost about $30 dollars more, but after all the customizing, $30 would have been cheaper.

Hey Slick. I have the same tank you do and now after seeing how you done things its going to help me better off figure out how I will be able to do this. and as you suggested cutting a new hole may be the way to go, well thats my exact thoughts and the way I will go about it. Thanks for all the info on that and pictures helped a great deal.
