Yeah, I know they make tons of kits but, it's just as easy for me to fab some up. I'd rather know I have everything where I want it, as opposed to it sitting where somebody else thinks it should be.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Aligned my '72 today. The alignment shop got two tries first... but apparently this truck "isn't in the computer" (go figure) and after I told them how to measure for toe, then received it back toed 3/16" OUTWARD, I just said screw it and did it myself. I guess the old saw about doing it yourself is true...

Now the truck is toed factory 1/8" in and drives better than ever.

Just spent the day cleaning bolts and painting them.... Not much else to do right now till the ole lady stops spending my parts money on un-necessary crap like food, and gas, and kids schooling and stuff like that. Work is slow right now.... Story of my life, when i have time I have no money and when I have money I have no time.... Life, go figure....

Same for me. This is how I battle it, though. Lots of work and no time? Buy parts. Lots of time and no work? Install said parts! works every time!

Ive had over 1000 bucks of body parts and patches sitting in my LMC shopping cart for 3 weeks or so now.... It will be the first sizable purchase. Ive done smaller stuff that has to sit until its time for them. You know, the stuff you see for a great deal but are nowhere near ready for buy you couldnt pass up.

Yesterday I installed a vacuum gauge, today I replaced the heater core I broke while routing the vacuum line for the gauge. I guess I stepped on the hose while I was under the hood. Go figure the coldest day of the year too.

Where the flexing as I drove perhaps a little bit too hard in the really twisty bits and ripped the floor loose from the rest of the cab due to rust along the pinchweldment :

Thumbs up Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I've finally been making progress on my '77 292 engine project ~ I've been ordering parts here & there , the new STD. (yay) pistons <vanished> 12/29 when they were dropped off @ FedEx in Kentucky , no tracking blah blahblah , they showed up on my door step this afternoon ~ I'm pleased .

Sealed Power brand , now made in India of all places ~ I've seen some really sketchy metallurgy from India in the past so we'll see , they all look just fine , I have one in my car right now , as soon as I can I'll zip it out to The Valley and have a set of gapless piston rings made up for them .

Picked up my rebuilt connecting rods from the Machine Shop last night and the Machinist Miked my crank shaft's bearing journals ~ as I'd thought , it's STANDARD and *PERFECT* . so I found a set of main & rod bearings for $51 delivered , then to - day I ordered up a complete overhaul gasket kit and a water pump.....

Progress at long last ! .

I'd begun cleaning up the old 250 C.I.D. engine because I didn't think the 292 would be ready in time to go in , we'll see .

Bare with me I'm not familiar with reposting and if this is the correct way. I only remotely hooked up the LED's to see how they looked. I haven't started the truck yet but getting close but did notice the headlight bulb was loose and could cause a problem down the road.

You did it right. Yes its true the bulbs are not mounted very well but I didnt have any trouble the couple months I drove with them. The truck is in pieces now. Only issue i really had has not getting a good solid beam... I guess thats a fairly big issue when they dont do what they are supposed to do though. I'll probable go with something else when i get that far in the build.
