Re: How about some pictures of '73-'87 short beds

haha.. thanks.. funny, a lot of people have said they like it the way it is .. beatup.. it's my daily driver when I'm not riding my motorcycle.. The interior is suprisingly pretty clean. The windows are tinted dark..at night you can't see in the cab at all. I need to get a new bed this one is shot. Clean up the cab with a new quarter panel and weld some holes. Get it media blasted and painted. Those are the main things.
A next door neighbor years ago had a nice swb cheyenne that I lusted over. Ever since I've been looking for one. I found this one cheap.

It's got a 350 4bolt dropped in it.. .. suprising how you can rail around the corners with these trucks lowered. It's a super stiff ride .. no sway at all. When I first got it .. I was thinking oh man it needs a lot of work what was I thinking. I already have 2 motorcycle projects. That night I got it the girl I was seeing thought it was pretty cool.. liked the width of the cab.. and the couch like red seat, she wanted to have sex in it. Never questioned it after that. I love Cheyennes!

Nice in progress stepside, steemin! I am now searching your old posts to see if I can find specifics on what you've done to your ride.

BTW, where is Craik, SK?

Thanx for the compliments on my project guys!! although im sure it wont come near to the quality of many project trucks on this site. its just a father/son tight budget project. ill keep you all updated as i make more progress!! thanx again!

Sounds cold!

Did you build that entire front rollpan/bumper yourself, or is there a front roll pan somewhat mass-produced for our trucks? After seeing that, my bumper all of a sudden looks really clunky and awkward.

actually its not really that cold up here, so far this winter its been warmer than -15 degree Celsius which is about 5 Fahrenheit. (not cold AT ALL) its just been this past week thats been -40 with windchill lol (-40 fahrenheit?) yea pretty cold anyway...my trucks definately a summer truck.

me and my dad fabricated the front roll pan our selves. right from the rear box corners of a 89-98 chevy truck and some flat sheets of steel. it took a while to get right, but im more than happy with the way it turned out! i have some pictures of the roll pan progress here im still workin on that site so if its kinda all over the place, thats why lol

Patrick, my mom made me one of those (cake replica of Yeller) for my B-day...but it looked nowhere as good as that one. It looked more like a truck from the movie CARS.

Steamin...NICE project!!!

No clue, I found it on the web years ago...I believe it was in a truck magazine website.

Here are the only two pics I have of it.

They are the 'sport' mirrors & were available through 87. I bought some of them (GM NOS) when i bought my 74. The 71-72 style are slightly different from the 73 & up style.

It is a 5/6 drop. Drop spindles and springs in the front, and a flip kit in the rear. It was not c-notched at the time, but I have had one time when I smacked the shortened snubbers. I will have a c-notch done before it gets back on the road. With the new found horsepower, gears, blower, etc... it will launch a whole lot harder than before and that will not be good if the suspension won't travel enough. I take some pics of the flip kit in the rear as I put it all back together.

Thanks for the info, sounds like its going to be a beast when it gets done

Just a couple more questions.

I have 15x10 rims all around and the current drop is just cut coils. What setup are you running in the front?
Rim size?
What drops spindle?

Thanks. I'm tired of my truck bottoming out on the slightest imperfection and want to drop the front correctly this time. I also dont want to change rims.
