A bunch of the Sports I've seen have been V6s.

I don't ever remember the Sports having V6's. I always remember them being 350's. I could be wrong though. I really wish GM had more info on these, and the Sierra GT's.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

@chevloray - much thanks for the info, it's defi appreciated!

@1badgmc - TBH, I'm more partial to the chrome center caps . . . besides, i don't ever remember seeing them on anything other than the black C1500 and the SS . . .

I don't really think I'm in the restoration field, yet - the truck just needs to be re-painted is all. Interior is still in great shape, and the whole drivetrain is still in excellent condition (no fluid leaks, even). Hell, she still has the factory charge of R12

Thing is - I want to do a built motor/tranny and start getting into some performance upgrades. But, the only thing holding me back is lack of knowledge on how many of these trucks were built. If it's a rather low production number like the SS . . . I intend to keep the truck fully stock.

After checking out that website, I guess I'm going to have to dig through the RPO codes for the one's specific to that setup. It's looking like there was about 45-48,000 . . . if I'm reading the results correctly.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

Here are a couple:

http://www.classicparts.com/1989-93-...tinfo/61-2926/
http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cd/full.aspx?Page=71

The first is listed for $79.95. I doubt the quality of LMC's is any better, but they want $129.95 for theirs. And I looked on http://www.car-part.com (search 1990/Chevy Truck 1500 series/Grille, then "Composite Headlamps, Painted") to see if there were any in a junkyard near Leesburg, NJ, but it looks like the closest one would be Philadelphia. That's a long way to go for one that might be in poor condition when you get there. Hope this helps!!

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

If I had myself a Sport that I was restoring, I would definitely put the stickers and molding back on after the repaint. That's a big part of what the truck is. Without it, the truck will be nothing more than a black '90-'93 with fresh paint.

Maybe go find yourself some black centercaps too. I really like the way the black caps look in those wheels.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

A couple months ago I picked up a 91 C1500 Sport 2wd 350 5 speed. The motor was blown, but it wasnt the original motor. I replaced it with a mildly built 350. Its all red with a black grill and black moldings all around. It has the grey high back bucket seats and needle gauges with a tach. The original chrome wheels even came with.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

here is the Red 92 Ssport 350 that i am attempting to get my hands on.

this is the first SPORT i have ever seen that is not fully loaded! must be slightly more rare then? No AC, No power windows, no power locks. Has sliding rear window & floor vents. Body is mint. I want it realy bad. I belive it has an aftermarket edelbrock intake from LMC... and it had a chip in it, Summit racing bullet mufflers with highflow cats... true duals. Owner still has the origional rims. He isnt doing anything with it. So his Father (Very nice old man that dosnt know how to speak english) likes to "tinker" around with it. Its been sitting for something like 2 years? i think But his father goes out and starts it once or twice a week. To circulate the oil through the system. AWSOME!

I'm guessing that being north of the border may open up some issues that result in such a combo of parts, or a lack of them. The owner, as I read the post, is an older man. If he ordered it new, he may not have wanted the amenities that we all take for granted.

As an aside, my ex-father-in-law worked for a lady who owned a driveline business. She died several years ago, but the last car she ordered new was a '72 Plymouth Satellite 4-dr sedan, with a 6-cyl and 3 on the tree. She was past 80 when she ordered it and took delivery. It was a cheesy medium green with a green vinyl interior. She could have bought anything she wanted, for cash, but was frugal until the day she died, working everyday at her store until then. Older folks have two ways of dealing with stuff: pinching every cent until Lincoln squeals or spending what they have on what they want, it seems. They know that they can't take it with 'em and they may not want their heirs to have it, either.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

i read the codes... but i only remember a few. Its got the BYP (Sport code) G80, L05,
GT5

and from what weve gatherd 1992 Sport, 350, 4L60, 4.10 limited slip... maybe the owner bought it to be quick. No A/C = a little more power? Roll up windows for less weight? lol i dunno but i would personaly trade comfort for power anyday.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

Kinda old school, ain't it, jb? Reminds me of being a lot younger and having to roll down the windows on my '56 Mercury 2-dr Hardtop, which had no air conditioning or power windows. No power anything, come to think of it.

I'm sure that running that VIN through the website that confirms production numbers would be interesting....like maybe no others ike it.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

New guy here Digging up an old thread. found this thread posted on fullsizechevy.com just thought I'd share a little insite on the 93 Sport package. 93 was an odd ball year for the Sport package, It came with a w/t grill, diesel front bumper, and a stepside with the only way you could get a sport in 93. Also no chrome and was was only available in Red, Black and White with Red int. Also no moldings.

My 93 Sport:

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

BIG MAC,

Welcome aboard. Very nice and unique truck. I had no idea the '93s were that different.

I made some trim modifications to my '89 K1500 (non-Sport) in tribute to the Sport trucks, not to make an exact copy, but to demonstrate the "feel".

Finally got around to switching out the bumper lights this weekend. The originals were clouded badly.

I'll throw mine in the mix . It is a BYP coded , 2wd , 5.7 , 700r4 , 3.08 open . I am the 3rd owner and it came out of Goergia . I have a build thread on it . Mine had the sport emblems on the bed sides and these on the side moldings .
