Re: 1972 Chevy Crew Cab “Denali”
I thought about doing this to a 65 I had way back when, but I don't have anywhere near the talent you have. Damn dude, you are one bad ass. I wish I had half the talent you have to. I am certainly watching this one. Rock on man. RR

Haven’t updated in awhile. Still working on it when I can... ordered some parts and they were delayed a month due to COVID so in the mean time I added some helper spring air bags. I’d like to tow my k10 with this truck some day so I figured air bags would help with the sag when towing. Came out nice. Fabricated and upper mount and lower mount as well. Lower mount attaches to my U bolt top plate but is removable to allow access to the u bolt nuts. My guage cluster for this truck had an air pressure guage I hope to incorporate into the air bags.

My ordered parts finally arrived. I was debating on running crossover steering on this truck but I figured due to the added weight of the bigger cab and big block I would go ahead and install now rather than later.. I ordered the Dana 44 crossover steering kit from ORD. Bought a factory 2wd gear box and also a new flat top passenger knuckle from REID racing. Tore the axle down. Replaced everything that needed replaced... bearings, races, seals, rotors, calipers, pads, ball joints, axle u joints... I don’t wanna have to tear this apart at a later date... got the steering arm installed and hope to have it all back together this weekend... getting hard to find parts for these old 44s

Looking good Clayton, I went with the airlift bags for a square body when I get around to installing. Yours look beefy. Keep up the great work! Trevor

Very nice work. It seems like everything old is hard to get parts for currently.

Got the front axle back together minus the diff cover.. gotta snug down the steering nuts yet. After a few years of collecting the nicest big hub parts I could find for this truck I finally put everything back together... Got some new 316 Allen bolts to finish the hubs off... I just love these old big hubs... Got lucky enough to find original plastic hub dials that weren’t broken... about ready to tear this body back off and finish a bit on the cab and start on the frame...

Mounted up my NOS west coast jr mirrors this weekend... also fabricated up a rear hitch for the sport bumper. Tried to keep it tucked up and clean as possible looking... threw some rear tow hooks on there as well. That way I have hooks front and rear.. pushed outside for some final pics before I rip apart and finish some small metal work left on the cab...

On the home stretch now with last bit of rust on cab being the door bottoms. Replaced inner door bottoms on both front doors. Third door passenger side was really nice shape so just did some work on the corners. Some seam sealer and rust encapsulater yet and they will be ready for outer bottom skins..

Also decided to go with a new vintage AC unit for this build rather than trying to make the original stuff work again. Dry fit the unit under the dash.. rather than bolt the supplied panels to the firewall in the stock holes I opted to cut up the supplied panels and weld into the firewall for a cleaner finish. Also welded up the blower fan hole as well once again using the supplied plate in the kit. Tuned out nice and I’m happy to see no extra holes on that side as I welded them all up..

Re: 1972 Chevy Crew Cab “Denali”
Yes it is inspirational and directional at the same time. I have my suburban, K20 full chassis with all the fixings, couple sets of doors, fenders, beds, full front clips and a 8.1 Vortec motor waiting for me to finish up last project so I can get started this fall.

Got all 3 doors epoxy primers on the insides. Seam sealed over top the weld joints… should have outer skins done this weekend… after that the cab is done metal wise. Took almost 2 years to get to this point but good things take time… probably won’t have much progress to show for awhile after this cuz body work is boring..

Do you know what color you are going to paint the truck?
