I don't know much about starters, but if the name implies the size then could I recommend possibly looking at some mini starters?

Re: 1969 c10 the start of something fun

ya a lot of block hugger style headers require an aftermarket mini starter . if u go this route keep in mind some are fixed, and some are clockable so you can rotate the body as needed. either way the exhaust is gonna be close to the starter, so due to heat soak a remote solenoid is a must for reliablility.

Re: 1969 c10 the start of something fun

I just found this on the net do's it sound about right ???

I've got a 70 Chevy C-10 SWB with a 327, 700R4, 12 bolt 4:11 posi. I got a driveshaft from a mid-80's SWB because the length was perfect. The problem is, the u-joint type is the inner clip but the rear end yoke is an outer clip type. Would it be better to take the driveshaft to the shop and get them to change the end or should I change the pinion yoke to the outer type? I'm not sure if they make that yoke does anyone know? - I'm not sure what the spline count.

I would try first to find a conversion u-joint. Napa (and other stores) sell a u-joint that is two different sizes - one size to fit your driveshaft and another size to fit the yoke. Tell them your two applications and see what they can find.

Thanks for the tip. I found a NAPA part 240-0356 that is the correct combination u-joint. It has the - 1 1/8 with inner clip on one pair and 1 1/16 outer clip on the other. Also has the correct width for both sides (outter clip side is narrower).

Re: 1969 c10 the start of something fun

Just an update for any one that is reading along

If you live near Lancaster, PA they told me that they can re-tube it for me
and all i have to do is bring them both ends of the old drive-shaft and get the length and he will weld it and spin balance it for around $350.

Re: 1969 c10 the start of something fun

Not a bad deal, and I like that option better than picking up another used one.

Just saw the vid too...sounds nice and healthy...hopefully the new shaft will hold up to the abuse since I don't think you will or should be refraining from doing them!

Re: 1969 c10 the start of something fun

OK guys ill give ya a little up date but i need your help as well. With being as low as it is i need a longer drive shaft and have no ida what i am looking for as the truck came down it pulled the rear in so i will have to extend the 2 link bar back and get a longer drive shaft so i need your input to try to find what might work.

So the 20" are sold and it now has 24" on the rear and 22" on the front

and little paint work to mix it up

and some new lights in the rear, lights are now led's

We moved the bed up so we did not have to cut it up for the monster notch
that will be going in soon.

I am thinking of putting something like this on the door all old looking and ruffed up.

Not sure what would work stock but you can always measure what you need and take it to a driveshaft shop to have them lengthen and balance it....
