Re: Dumptruck Dolly

Today I started test fitting some new parts. Here is a steering stabilizing shock. This piston is supposed to be 4 1/2 inches exposed when it is set initially.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly

I was removing the steering link between the two spindles when something caught my eye… I guess I will not be cleaning this part. The Blue Beast must’ve been in a collision… And now I think back to the welded leaf spring mounts earlier in the build. I’ll have to find something different.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly

Using a flap disk, I begin cleaning the differential… And the tab tells the story, 4.55 gear ratio. Tomorrow I have to crawl underneath Dolly and check what the gear ratio is. I do not recall if there is a tab located there, or not. Could I be so lucky? It would be a fantastic day if these gears matched up. I am not too worried...one way or the other I’ll get it matched up.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly

I'm amazed that everything is unbolting. It's going to look good as a 4x4.

You will be ready for the snow at this rate. You know there is a tool to remove the wiper arms so you don't have to pry with a screwdriver?

I might be ready. You never know when it’ll come in this neck of the woods.

If you can, send me a picture of the tool you mentioned.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly

Lifting the nose off the frame...passenger side was stubborn and gave way to a 3 lb sledge...then I propped the sides up waiting for assistance.

It hooks under the edge of the arm and then you just work the arm up and it pops off. Should be able to find one at napa or similar.

Thank you!

I do have some ideas on where I want to take this truck regarding looks, etc...but I have to remind myself about the initial goal of “keeping it in a functional mode”, and not tear this down so far that it’s not useable for long periods of time... Stay tuned

Re: Dumptruck Dolly

Maybe a minor detail, but I’m documenting the original scribed numbers from the assembly line.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly

Let me know what you think...

Trying to keep the cutting to a minimum, I came up with this for the cut pattern. I like that I keep Dolly’s top and bottom frame rails, and that I use the the donors original mounting points, and that there are angles. Hopefully the size of this will cover the two dimpled spots on Dolly’s frame.

All of this being in my head, I guess I’ll find out when I get a chance to get out to the garage. I see another cardboard template in my future.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly

I cut out the area where the “bumps” were, so I could work on a relatively flat surface.
