Re: Carolina K10, 1979 Reg cab short bed.

So guy number 1 did not come yesterday for the engine as you can see so I called guy number 2. He will be coming next Monday for it. $200 for a running motor should get it out of here quickly.

My friend is lending me his welder and if I like it I'll end up buying it from him. Going to start practicing my metal working skills so I can do some of the body work myself. Gotta learn how to fab up metal sometime right?

I'm going to wire wheel as much of the frame as I can while the engine is out and do the forward portion of it. If I'm feeling frosty once that is done then I'll take the cab off and do that portion also.

I don't want to go too in depth and carried away right now because I'm living at home and I want to respect my family/neighbors.

Take a video of it running and driving and post the link in the CL ad. I would throw it up there for $600. The reason why I posted mine so low was because I want it gone ASAP. If I didn't live at home and had my own place I'd keep it and put it in something that needed a motor or try and get more money out of it.

Also its a 305 not many people want a 305 like that. If it was a 350ci engine on cl for $200 it would have been gone before I hit "Post Ad" haha

Man you've been getting along pretty good. Can't wait to see the new engine installed. Wish you'd lived just a tick closer I'd just about take the engine off your hands just so I can get my beast back on the road cheap. Still you're doing good. And I praise you for respecting the neighbors and family. Some people could care less but there's still a few nice fellas around.

Thanks. I try to be as considerate as I can to my loved one's. Every now and then my selfish side comes out but I make up for it in one way or another.

I've got no problem coming out there with parts or for a visit sometime. I love the foothills and I've got a buddy in Greensboro I met through other truck forums I'm trying to plan a trip with.

Without a doubt... Not to mention, with your creativity and my (soon to be) skill we could really do some cool stuff.

Thanks John. How's the big blazer doing? I'm really digging the 2.5" lift.

Went out and tried to get a coat of primer on the 5.3.... tried being the key word here. The temperature dropped too low before I could finish taping off. I started getting frustrated because the tape wouldn't adhere so I just called it a night.

Thanks Austin. It's coming along, but I guess I'm waiting on warmer weather like you and everyone else here. I'd watch CL for some bigger axles, that much power on Boggers in going to be hard on 1/2 ton running gear.

I don't even know if I want to run the boggers anymore let alone lift the truck... I'd rather have a cut up jeep to mess up than the truck. Especially since I'm doing so much work to it. When the time comes closer to finishing the swap I'll be on the lookout for the stock wheels and all terrains. The boggers I'll run at the beach.

Those stock 4x4 steelies are getting harder to find....especially with us 60-66 guys snapping them up for disk conversions. I'll keep my eyes peeled for you.

The price has been way up on the 2wd rally's too. They do look good though. Can't go wrong when you go "correct", right?

Re: Carolina K10, 1979 Reg cab short bed.

Yesterday was a big day full of work... it was an amazing 70 degrees so I knocked a bunch of stuff out.

Pulled the motor from the truck and sold it to this gentleman in the picture. Really cool guy hes putting it in his c20 and the 454 in that is going into his drag car project.

Got the 5.3 painted yesterday. Just need to do the valve covers and oil pan today. I went with Chevrolet Orange Red.

There are a few cracks still left from the old paint but I'm not worrying about them. I did a decent job removing what I could but when it comes time to install the turbo setup its all getting torn apart and sent to the machine shop.

Thanks guys. Here's what I started with this morning. I started with painting the harmonic balancer and then painting the valve covers, oil pan, and frame prep at the same time. It was crazy because while one coat was drying I was shooting another coat somewhere else... A couple hours of degreasing and pressure washing and the frame was ready to paint.

I painted the Harmonic Balancer with some rustoleum "Hammerd Black"

I took this picture because it really shows you how many little projects I have going at one time. I've got rims to sell on the right, the oil pan and valve covers being painted in the center, a possibly blown transmission (haven't dropped the pan let alone smelled the fluid), inner fenders (I'm picking up the welder tomorrow), etc etc etc lol

And here is the valve covers mocked up with the intake. The oil pan at this point was still drying.

Re: Carolina K10, 1979 Reg cab short bed.

As for the frame... while all that was going on I had a can of oven cleaner, degreaser, and a couple of bottles of purple power in my arsenal...

I don't know what this stuff is but its on there like white on rice...

I painted the frame with VHT chassis and rollbar paint and some Duplicolor self etching primer. The primer isn't necessary but I did it anyway.

First coat of primer

2 coats

And 2 coats of the chassis paint.

I might pull the front axle out while everything is taken apart and service/paint it... That's a job in itself but it has to be done.
