Re: Project 69 Blown Gasser!

So glad I found this build, I've been tossing the idea of doing a gasser build with my 68, but hadn't seen anyone try it yet. I love it and I think you just sold me on the idea.

Glad you like it. I tossed around the idea of going with a straight axle front but didn't.

Re: Project 69 Blown Gasser!

I have both a factory ifs front end and a straight axle out of a mid 40s Chevy truck. My truck was originally a 4x4 K20 so the straight axle will be pretty easy to do and I believe that is the route I'm heading in, but I'm sure the ifs would be a lot nicer to drive.

Re: Project 69 Blown Gasser!

Cut the door bottoms and had them sand blasted. Plan to spray some epoxy primer in the next few days.

Getting a little closer to being done. Covered the inside door panels with copies from old drag racing magazines to match the headliner.

Your truck is looking really good. What size front tire are you running. And how does the blown big block sound?

215/70R15 tires on the front. Motor sounds goooood! Jones two chambered mufflers with 3" exhaust dumped in front of rear axle.

Re: Project 69 Blown Gasser!

I noticed you did some header work after you painted them, around the steering. Do you have any pictures of that.

Sorry, I don't have any pictures of the header mods. I started with a set of BBC fenderwell headers for a 55 Chevy. I had to cut them at the head flange and raise them and then cut and angle both collectors. Probably would have been better off to start from scratch.

Re: Project 69 Blown Gasser!

Got the OEM bedsides sandblasted on the inside and ready for epoxy primer. Also put a finish on the bed wood awhile ago.

Re: Project 69 Blown Gasser!

Any chance you posted pictures or a how to anywhere on the web about how you did your tach and gauge panel with the stars and stripes? Tach looks like a Garlits version. I have a couple of old tachs and would love to try that paint job out myself.

Thought you might like a picture of one part of my shop. Pic from back when I first did it. I put the covers on sort of like a craft person does Mod Podge. I used water thinned Elmers Glue. Shops a huge mess now
