Re: My 65 step build and first chevy

Ebrake system took awhile to set up I used most of old system fit to the new cross member I got. added some cable guides from junk yard to keep cables from rubbing. Work really well. I used some 3/8 stock to make cable ends to adjust the length of the ones I had shorter. Used the mig welder as well as crimp.

Re: My 65 step build and first chevy

I still need to get a few bolts a little longer and some cotter pins to make sure the system stays together. But for the most part pretty happy with the outcome.

I got the wheels cleaned up painted with some rally silver and put the center caps and rings on. I like them more than I thought I would. Running 255 70 15 on back and 235 70 15 on front.

Re: My 65 step build and first chevy

Last thing I have been working on is the exhaust. I got the flow master universal kit. And I don't think I used one pipe where it was intended for. All I have left from the kit now is a bunch of 18 to 24 inch straight pipe left. I need to pick up a 45 bend to finish the exit out on passenger side. I am gonna wrap the pipe where it goes by the brake line. I also got a piece of aluminum to make heat shield by the fuel filter. I think I am ok here as far as clearance. Take it easy on me this is my first exhaust, a little pieced together but I am pretty pleased with the end result.

Re: My 65 step build and first chevy

Now I am starting to modify the ammeter to a volt meter. Getting close will post more pics when completed. Using every ones suggestions from this site. You can see how hot it was getting so will feel better having the voltmeter instead, especially since I am using a 100 amp alternator now.

Re: My 65 step build and first chevy

Quick update got gauges back together with the volt meter upgrade. Here is pictures of before and after. I still want to get a tach for it before I put in. I just cleaned up and painted needles no decal kit was really needed. Polished the lens with 3M micro polish.

Also just got my seat back from upholstery shop. Really like the outcome. Seat has all new foam and is nice and solid again.

Re: My 65 step build and first chevy

Last thing to update is got the drive shaft back from getting it shortened and balanced. Also got new yoke and bearings. No pictures of it in but it fits perfect now. I got a Champion 3 row radiator with 2 12 inch electric fans as well. Will be staring to put the front end together soon now. I went with the CC6062 because it will bolt in without the saddles and also has the top coming out in center which works well with my serpentine setup. Will post pics of install when done. It is nice to see it starting to come back together.

Re: My 65 step build and first chevy

So I tried the CC6062 and was told it would bolt right in. Unfortunately it does not. I had hoped it would. It is to tall and would have to cut the cross member where the saddles for original are. Also petcock on wrong side. Went ahead and took back and got the CC284 which is for my year truck. Also went with 2 12" fans. Here is pic of radiator mount in truck only had to slightly reshape lower saddles.

Re: My 65 step build and first chevy

I fabricated this frame to hold the fans and bolted where the stock shroud was. It worked out pretty nice. I did not want to use the plastic ties through the radiator. I have heard some guys having heating problems with the shrouds when going down highway as they can restrict airflow. So thought I would give this a try.

Re: My 65 step build and first chevy

Got my GenIV vintage air system ordered today. Can not wait to get it. Just a few odds and ends to get and will have all that is needed to start engine. As soon as I finish this Fatmat I can start the electrical as well.
