I saw a post on one of the threads out here that showed a shift knob fashioned out of a piston from a 5hp Briggs & Stratton… After seeing that post, I called a friend of mine and here is the result…

Once the welding is complete, I will then attempt to polish the pistons and paint the Shifter… any advice on polishing, and what (if anything) should be sprayed on it to protect the finish, would be greatly appreciated...

I think a good buffing cloth grinding wheel should make it shine. Then just do a good clear coat on it.

X2! Clear coat offers great protection. Clear coat is what protects the base coat from UV rays And gives it the shine! Wonderful stuff! lol

A good buffin never hurts. Thats what I did with my bezel and that thing shines like crazy.

1966 Chevy pickup bezel work for Bompenstein -...

Sorry to put a vid on with all sorts of Corney stuff.
But if you look at the beginning the bezel does shine.

Eastwood makes a bare metal clear coat that works really well.

Not much of an update… been focusing on getting the P/S sorted on the '72
but today I visited my friend and got him to fire up his Plasma cutter and get the axle cut down, this will be my Spare tire mount for the stepside fender….

Should be getting my wiring harness ordered this next week and if my son's friend doesn't come up with the money for those wheels, I will be retrieving them from the son's place...

Started by cutting the 3 lug studs loose from the OEM spare carrier…
