if it isn't one thing it is ten others. I feel you on that. the doors look great, I like the attention to detail you use. however, when you use the weather strip, how are you going to keep it all nice and flush like you have it? When I put weather striping in, it really made the doors fit like crap, so I gotta get on fixing all that.

99 to Life, I know what you mean, Yes, I thought of the weatherstripping deal. If the factory is to thick then he will just run some of the aftermarket self stick stuff. At least the gap are even.

oldman3. Thank you. I have had a bad last 6 months with water. Roof, flooded basement, and now the bathroom plumbing. My 80 year old house should be good as new for a while!

On to the passenger door now. I have the back of the door gap fixed and started on the front now. I should have the door finished after work tomorrow. Then I have to finish the 55 brow on the underside on the passenger side and make the tabs that the screws on the headlight bezel mount to on both sides at the top. Then finish welding the fire wall. Then straighten the hood and remove the center seam. I am also putting in a 55 chevy gauge bezel, so I have to modify the dash for that. Then this weekend I am going to cut out the corner windows on a bad cab and turn another buddies good cab into a five window in the near future. I am addicted to these trucks!

oldman3, Thank you. This time I am going the cut the whole step formed center out and put a 1.5" piece in. I will do it in pieces that way the hood does not loose its shape. Then I can hammer and dolly it back to shape. The last one I only welded in 5/8" strip in so it was double thickness and it still had the 90 degree bend on it. I had to grind the 90 degree bend off and then it was still hard to hammer and dolly. That might be the project for the week end.

oldman3, I have the hood mostly done. It will be finished on Sunday. I have not been on to much due to us being swamped at work. The center was all cut out and the new was put in. It warped out a little so I had some work straightening it out. I have to take out the inner front panel because I can clean back behind it and the drivers corner was hit alittle, so it needs some work. I am stripping all the paint off of it so I can fix some small dents. Then I will be moving onto the next couple things I have to do yet and then send it home. And soon back onto the panel.

Well, today was a 10 hour day. I got a lot done. Started out fixing the drivers door. Once I shaved the drip rails off I noticed that the top of the door sat in farther than the passengers door. I noticed it on my panel truck too and I checked my 54 cab that I have and it was like that too. So I slit the back side and pulled it out where I wanted it and put a screw driver it the slit to keep it there so I could tack it. Then welded it up and now it fits right. Then I had to finish the gaps on the doors, and now they are done. Then I welded the fire wall in, I only had it tacked in before. Then finished the underside of the passenger headlight brow and they are now finished. Next was the hood. The center is all done and smoothed out and I cut out the front emblem holes and made panel for them. I drilled out the clutch head bolts under the hood to fix the corner of the hood. I figured I would never get them out. After I drilled them out I welded nuts to the underside of the panel so it bolts up like it did. I still have to fix the front edge because it is dented up. I found some filler in the hood so I will hammer and dolly it so it will not need to much. Here are some pictures.

Looking great Shannon! What are you using to make your fillers, 18 gauge 1018 sheetmetal? Since you're planishing the hood pieces, are you MIG or TIG welding it in?

Sweet job on the metal. That is a unigue firewall. I assume you made it yourself. You could probably market that design.

BlueJeep, Thank you. Yes, I am using 1018 sheet metal. I am using MIG. I have a TIG but need to get some smaller tungsten for doing sheet metal. Just have not had time to mess with the TIG on sheet metal too. I would have loved to go to one of those sheet metal workshops you went to. I love doing sheet metal.

oldman3, Thank you. It would have been a lot easier to just fill that step in the hood! At least the filler would have not warped the hood! I got most of it out just a little work on it yet, like the front edge.

av8tr33337,Thank you. I must confess it was not my idea. Ironworks and Nsane were the ones that I saw do it, I just made the one for this truck.

I really enjoyed the workshop, and I learned a TON. Questions like I've asked you I never would have known enough to ask before. Ron says he uses 1008 DQ steel on all his projects, saying it's about 20% easier to work than 1018 (but kinda hard to find). He also says he uses 3/32 orange tungsten for most everything...sheetmetal to 1/8" plate, steel and aluminum. I've had a TIG for a while now (too embarrassed to say how many years), but due to family and time limitations...I haven't spent much time practicing. I'm forcing myself to now though, and I'm really liking it.

BlueJeep, I would like to try that steel but like you said it is hard to find. I would like to see the difference working it. I will have to try that tungsten. Was he using a inverter machine or a transformer machine? I was told to use a smaller tungsten like 1/16 for sheet metal. I too do not like to spend all to time when I know I can do it quick with MIG. But I know it works better than the MIG when metal working something that was TIG welded.
