Re: More on EVs from a guy trying to sell them
Saw a video today by two guys driving a Tesla around the country. When they got to a motel one night, the instrumentation said they had 28 miles of range left. But the next the morning the number was down to 13. On their way to a charging station just a few miles away, that number rapidly fell into the low single digits. When they got to the station one of them said, based on how fast the number was dropping, they had at least 50 feet of range to spare!

What Happens When a Rivian EV Runs Out of Battery Charge? Article HERE More than any other concern they may have about EVs, most folks want to know what'll happen when one runs out of battery. The simple answer is that it will stop moving. What people really want to know though is, what happens after that? We decided to find out.

Re: More on EVs from a guy trying to sell them
December 18, 2023
YOKOHAMA, Japan - Chris and Julie Ramsey, husband and wife adventurers, have completed their all-electric journey to the South Pole in Antarctica. Their 10-month, 30,000 km adventure that started on the frozen Arctic Sea at the 1823 Magnetic North Pole, has seen them drive the varied terrains and conditions of North, Central and South America before carefully traversing the most remote continent on the planet, to reach the South Pole. This is the first time any car, let alone an EV, has completed such a journey. Across long distances and challenging off-road terrains, the all-electric expedition vehicle, a Nissan Ariya with e-4ORCE all-wheel control, has passed the toughest tests at extreme temperatures and high altitudes. The vehicle – factory-standard with no modifications to the powertrain or battery – was modified by polar mobility specialists Arctic Trucks, to accommodate 39-inch BF Goodrich tires. Chris and Julie began planning Pole to Pole in 2017 after completing the Mongol Rally in their Nissan LEAF, the first time an EV had been used to tackle the 10,000-km challenge. They recognized how much interest this type of epic adventure could generate in electric vehicles, as well as creating a legacy of charging infrastructure behind. They felt Pole to Pole was the ultimate EV adventure and made it a reality through a commitment to collaboration and innovation with like-minded partners. Chris commented, “I can’t believe we’re at the South Pole. After so many years of planning, it doesn’t feel real. I’ve always had full confidence in the amazing capabilities of electric vehicles, and I knew our Nissan Ariya would tackle everything thrown at it. But it’s been far tougher than I anticipated. I’m proud that Pole to Pole has reached millions of people in parts of the world and enthused them about embracing EV in their day to day lives.” Julie added, ”This has been an incredible journey, with the people we’ve met, the friends we’ve made and the support we’ve received. Pole to Pole started out as just Chris and I, but the expedition team is now made of up of thousands of kind, forward-thinking people. These supporters and contributors want to make a difference and share the excitement of electric driving.” Allyson Witherspoon, Corporate vice president, Nissan Global Marketing, Brand and Merchandizing, said, ”On behalf of everyone at Nissan, congratulations on completing Pole to Pole. We all admire your daring spirit and passion for pushing the boundaries of electric adventure. It has been an extraordinary journey to follow and a point of pride for us at Nissan. It has shown how Nissan’s innovative technology continues to deliver excitement, whether on a trip to the office or to the Antarctic!” Discover how the Pole to Pole adventure unfolded on Instagram @PoletoPoleEV

Re: More on EVs from a guy trying to sell them
March 31, 2023
Surrounded by the vast ice-covered Arctic Ocean, EV adventurers Chris and Julie Ramsey have started their highly anticipated Pole to Pole expedition. Following a comprehensive safety assessment, the team set out from the 1823 North Magnetic Pole*. Their journey ahead will see them drive south, covering more than 27,000 km through North, Central and South America, aiming ultimately to reach the world’s most remote place, Antarctica’s South Pole, in December. No vehicle has ever completed the journey between these extremes of the globe and the Pole to Pole team are undertaking the challenge in a 100% electric vehicle. Chris and Julie have embarked on the journey to showcase just how capable and exciting electric vehicles are, with the hope to accelerate their adoption as a positive action against the climate crisis. The expedition-ready Nissan Ariya has undergone some minor modifications to help it cope with the extreme terrains that the team are set to face along their route. Most notably the suspension has been lifted and wheel arches extended to accommodate huge 39-inch tires that will help the car ‘float’ on deep snow and sea ice. No modifications were made to the Ariya’s battery and powertrain, which remain standard, or the e-4ORCE system, Nissan’s advanced electric all-wheel-control technology. As the couple travels through the remote polar regions, they will tow an innovative renewable energy unit, which includes an extendable wind turbine and foldable solar panels. The prototype will take advantage of the expected high winds and long daylight hours, harnessing the natural energy to charge the Ariya’s battery, whilst Chris and Julie take well-earned breaks from driving in the challenging environment. The team hope the charging innovation can have a positive legacy by inspiring a transition to electric vehicles for future polar exploration. “After four years of planning and hard work, we’re so excited to officially get Pole to Pole underway,” Chris commented from the start. “Julie and I have done several EV adventures over the past 10 years but Pole to Pole is definitely our biggest and most exciting challenge. We’ve had to think differently, be innovative and collaborate with like-minded partners to make this expedition a reality. Our expedition Ariya is fun to drive and performed well over the 5,000 km journey to get to this starting point. It gives us the confidence we can tackle every driving scenario we’ll face in the coming months.” Julie added, “We’re excited to share our adventure with you and shine a light on the amazing people, communities and projects along the way that is making a positive difference to the climate crisis. We’d love for everyone to be part of Pole to Pole, so please follow and get involved in the adventure on our social channels.”

Re: More on EVs from a guy trying to sell them
I'd be interested to see what their support team looked like. They also didn't drive pole to pole, as there are no roads through the Darien Gap.

Or could it be the diesel-powered support vehicle has a DC generator? But that would never happen. Certainly they wouldn't burn several hundred gallons of diesel fuel for this EV adventure.

Re: More on EVs from a guy trying to sell them
That's a pretty big feat. Many things are possible with enough planning and dollars behind it. If I'm not mistaken Nissan has gone all-in with their ev cars (hybrids), not sure about their trucks.

it also took them 9 months. I would be curious to know how much actual DRIVE time was involved versus the time they were sitting and waiting on the vehicle to recharge.

Re: More on EVs from a guy trying to sell them
Hopefully they have documentation to back up the story not saying they didn’t do it . When we did the iron butt on motorcycles pre cell phones with gps you had to take a picture of the reciept and odo reading. I missed the mark in 97 by about 200 miles . Never tried again , guidelines are 1000 miles in 24 hours

Re: More on EVs from a guy trying to sell them
Honestly, I don't care if an EV has gone 2.5 trillion miles, and I don't care if everyone in the world drives an EV. I care about the government attempting to coerce people into buying EVs. If they're really that good, the market will decide.

Re: More on EVs from a guy trying to sell them
My utility gas bill "therms cost" increased 57.4% over last year, and elect. is just around the corner.
One has to wonder how much of that's necessary to build the infrastructure for "emissions free and environmentally friendly" EV.

Re: More on EVs from a guy trying to sell them
Enjoy it, once the thermal generation is all replaced with wind and solar, the cost will be quadruple. Every megawatt of thermal will be replaced with double the megawatts because we get to pay for the generation AND the battery storage.

Remember the GM EV1? Documentary worth watching: https://watchdocumentaries.com/who-k...-electric-car/
Delco Remy had an earlier electric prototype in the 70s. Too bad GM decided to quash their R&D
