And this is the picture in question, you can see the spring that i quickly looped the end into the radiator hose clamp since it was a easy temporary mounting point at the time:




I mainly worked on the ford today but since my temporary secondary jerry rigged throttle return spring was brought up I felt like it needed to be addressed. I didnt find the spring mounting bracket I have been looking for in the shed but I did find a bracket that will work untill I find it..I bolted it on the intake and also swapped out the spring for another set of dual throttle springs I had.

Now The set-up has two sets of dual throttle return springs and actually pulls the throttle all the way back nicely and I like the Idea of a second set just Incase I took a picture so you can see everything should be kosher.

Well havent worked on the truck because ive went back to working instead of going for surgery and have had no extra funds, but I did take it out for the first drive ever besides up and down the street for test runs,put quit a few miles about 30 on her! heres some pictures the ol' lady took:



heres where i noticed her taking pictures but didnt want to take my eyes off the road I was a nervous wreck listening for something to go boom:



Nothing went boom ! but we did have a issue at the gas station....since i only have poured gas into the tank at home with a long funnel i didnt know there was a leak in the rubber hose filler on the tank so when i put the gas pump nozzle in and squeezed the trigger gas gushed all over the floor board and i didnt know until it was pouring out the bottom of the door at the rockers, besides the floor board full of fuel the truck did great with 0 problems!

Haha I hope not because i stopped smoking awhile back this year!!!

Put some more miles on the truck today and loaded up some extra parts I had


and traded them to my buddy for the ram horns i will eventually run to replace the long tube headers that hang below the frame too much:



also a cool old tach so I can replace the newer sunpro tach that is installed now:


also helped him put a new distributor in his truck and get it fired up and yes my friends that is a o.g stock truck bought from the original owner out of a barn with o.g patina...

after the third day driving it feels better since im not white knuckling the steering wheel waiting for something to break


Well today has been one year that I owned the truck went from a stock field truck with no motor or trans to a running driving air bagged daily driver! I Built it to be a driver, nice to look at but not to nice to throw stuff in the back or worry about scratching paint, I wanted to have more done to the truck by now like the exhaust, reupholster the seat ,power dual master brakes, and some other items but am pretty stoked on how it turned out especially since alot of the build i was on crutch's and in a leg cast and all done with basic hand tools and in a driveway, it was all about having motivation to get off my butt everyday and work on it ...im pretty stoked!! I know that it will never be done and ill always be doing something to it so there will be more updates only time will till what it looks like in another year!

thanks McMurphy I never thought of being someones hero, the parking lot pictures are at McClellan Air Force Base which is now open to the public since is no longer a air force base,I have been going to the base since i was little and when it was active,I always see guys taking pictures next to old buildings which we have here in the big city but i thought it would be cool to get some in front of the old air plane hangers instead...

Well I didnt take many pictures but heres what i did ,im still in the process of making a flip up license plate because im going to install a hitch if i need to pull a trailer heres a picture without the license plate on and you can see the hitch hole(got to fab a hinge and make some big holes for the license plate bolts to pass through when the hinge closes, so dont mind the cocked eyed drilled holes):

This is my first attempt at something custom besides doing frenched headlights or tail lights

great build ..love the rear grill effect ...can you explain the light relay ..you said that the lights get brighter then the old style?

Yes in short summary, adding relays take the power your headlights use straight from the battery(like new cars have) ,instead of the old school way where the power has to run through the headlight witch first then to the headlights which can cause up to %30 power loss, not to mention all the power load on the headlight switch can cause it burn up resulting in loss of headlight at night especially if its a stock 40-50 year old switch, heres the link i used that "markeb01" did it explains it a little bit better and how to do it:

i did hangout with the local group of guys that are usually at the shows that are here on the forum! and got to meet a couple more new guys also, but thos is a big show with hundreds of cars/trucks and hundreds of spectators also so its had to meet all of them when alot of the time they are checking out the show also....

What also was cool about the show was the guy i bought my truck from a year ago spotted it and came up and checked it out, he was grinning ear to ear the whole time shaking his head in disbelief how much in done to the truck basically speechless checking it out for the first 10 minutes, then told me numerous times how glad he was that I got it and what ive done so far that made my day ! I got his contact info and will be keeping in contact

I am glad you are showing your truck too. I think it is all the unique things you have done with your rig that really makes it one of my favorites!

Well thank you McMurphy I appreciate that very much!

I did get to do somework on my truck with a little help from a friend. My truck has now been molested by another man LOL, up untill now all the work has been done by me, but I didnt feel bad having a friend help me, this is one of my closest friends Richie he is a mechanic that runs his own business out of his shop behind his house:


I made a couple different sets of some shade tree shoddy relocation rear shock mounts that i was hoping would get me by until i could buy some $50 bolt on ones ,but kept breaking them due to my bolt on designs and also being a dummy and not knowing how how to measure shock travel right and pretty sure i had the shocks at full extension pulling on the mounts when the bags were at full air...

here richie is making a template and showing me how to determine were the mount needs to be using a string with the compressed and extended marks on it:


here i am cutting the mounts out of rectangle tubing with the design me and richie came up with:


Richie cleaning the frame up to weld to:


I had Richie weld them in


And with the shocks:


While we had the rear wheels off Richie set up the brake lathe and showed me how to resurface one of my drums since i only replaced the pads and springs they needed it:


then he turned me loose with the other one:


And I got the hang of it!:


After eating some Mc Donald's and hanging out for awhile it got late so drove home to post you guys some pictures , truck rides 100x better and got to learn some new stuff,fix my truck, and hang out with a old friend it was a good day!

very cool! always good to have knowledgeable friends you can count on ....one thing i miss is not being close to home where i would be able to work on my truck with my dad, and learn a few things along the way too

Well I helped richie pick up and install his drive line in his 4x4 toyota since he bent it on his last 4x4 trip and then we decided to work on a project for my truck.....I have a floor jack , gas can ,and a blue milk crate strapped in the back of my bed with hand tools, jumper cables, etc just in case i break down somewhere since the truck is now my daily driver ,and worried that either someone was going to steal my stuff out the back one day or use my own tools to break into my own truck....So I had been thinking of building a old ammo crate style box with a lock to put it all in but being low on funds to buy wood and also being a carpenter/electrician I always have work tools with me I decided it would be best to use a metal tool box....I know it takes away from the over all style and look of my truck but it is my daily/work truck so I had to do something......I had a set of longbed tool boxs that sit on the bed rails that have been out in my pops back forty for years, so i went and picked one box up and made some measurements:


cut it up and shortened it so it will fit behind the cab all the way to one side and be able to mount my spare tire standing up on the other side...



had richie do some welding on the part you will see and i practiced laying some beads on the end on the inside :



And here you can see how it looks shortened up:


Got it all welded up and grinded down but as far as we got .........tomorrows update should be having it painted and mounted......what was nice about using the side box is that it was something i had for years and free, and that when mounted in the bed it will be below the bed rails..

Well here you go!

I just painted the box black to kinda hide it , got it mounted and made a spare tire bed side mount. I used one of the box bracket legs that you would use to mount it in the bed rail and I had a extra 54 ford trunk spare tire rod and wing nut setup, I even installed a loop on the tool box to chain my dog to .....I havent painted the spare rim red yet or got the spare tire shaved into a bigger white wall but all in all I think everything turned out ok and it will do the job.:
